My Christmas Wishes:

1. Set the forward lines. Stop juggling them after a period because (fill in the nonsensical blank).
2. Stop the Hyman and Brown with Matthews experiment. A line needs one mucker, not two.
3. If you can get anything for him, trade Uncle Leo. That is all. Don't consider any other trades.
4. Unless you can get a decent D-man. Make that trade.
5. Take the next couple of months to give guys like Leivo and Kapanen a real shot. Not one game out of 10. See what you have here.

That's really it. This is a pretty good team as is. Look at their record "despite" the long list of struggles. Give the kids time to work things out, punishing them by playing them with Martin and Moore isn't productive. They are thinking too much out there, not letting their incredible instincts rule.

My theory is they're trying to pump up Brown's numbers because they see him as a valuable trade asset and Kapanen as a nearly-ready replacement. Might not be in-season but I think they figure a Brown who can top last year's numbers may be very valuable to a lot of teams. But it isn't working with Matthews, he needs Willy.

Leo's got next to no trade value and, knowing Babcock and what the Leafs will do for him, his poor numbers mean he'll probably get re-signed for pretty cheap.

The only thing I really want them to do right now is re-sign JVR. A good d-man would be nice but I don't want them overpaying for one. To be honest, if they could find a 2 or 3C that would let them move Bozak for something small I'd actually prefer that to a defensive trade.

Totally agree. He isnt perfect, but he has so many good qualities that I would hate for him to leave. I never understood the "trade JVR" seemingly because he will be RFA (or UFA?) at the end of the year.

You could be right. I love him, but they have sooo many wingers, something has to give.

Leafs wingers >> Kip Winger

I understood trading JVR two years ago but given how little he made the Leafs were never going to move him for peanuts and I guess that's what teams were offering. Guy's averaged almost 30 goals a season since.

There's just so little up for grabs on the left that I can't imagine any reason not to try and lock him up.

I like Brownie too but if they're going to hold onto the Big 3, and Kadri's not going anywhere because he might be on the best long-term deal in the league right now, what else is there?

That line keeps giving me Sundin flashbacks.

No Auston again.

If there's something lingering there, something re-activated (and there sure as hell seems to be), just sit him through the holidays. Let him rest, let the staff work on him. There's no point in risking anything right now.

And give him a pass to the Mats Sundin hyperbaric chamber.

I'd say Jacques Lemaire probably cracked a wry grin watching last nights Leafs Wild game.
