Picked up a case of Sam Adams Winter Lager, which is typically my go to holiday beer. Anyone have a good to Winter/Holiday Beer? Please Share!

I like stouts around this time of year.

One of my least favorites is Troegs Mad Elf. Too boozy for me. It's been years since I have had it, so maybe I need to give it another shot...

Any good local beers in Columbus that I need to get my wife's family to bring me when they head down here this evening? I love Land Grant, but not sure they have a holiday beer.

Land Grant does have a holiday brew. It's a stout called Beard Crumbs, inspired by an oatmeal raisin cookie. I'm not a big fan but I have a couple friends that love it. My sister brought home a winter ale from High Street brewery and it was fantastic.

Oh right, I had that this weekend. I'm not a huge stout guy but Beard Crumbs was awful tasty if that's your style.

SA's Winter Lager is pretty good; I like it but usually I only pick it up in one of those mixed 12-packs/cases with their other seasonal stuff.

My old favorite dark/winter beer was Blackhook, from the Redhook brewery. They had discontinued it for a while, and when it came back it wasn't nearly as good as I had remembered it. Maybe my taste buds changed but I think they just brought back a shoddy product using the same name.

Ok. Just got some more info from my sis. It was North High Brewing and the beer was called Winter Ale but you can't just get a six pack unfortunately she said. They do bottle but I guess you have to schedule a party where they will brew a big batch of whatever recipe you choose then you can have them bottle the extra? Sounds complicated :noidea: but the beer was good

Honestly, my favorite Holiday beer in the state is 12 Dogs of Christmas by Thirsty Dog. You can find it in Columbus, it's definitely worth a 6 pack.

Not a holiday beer but Labrador Lager by Thirsty Dog is my current favorite beer

Great Lakes is brewed in Cleveland and I love their stuff.
Most the good beer spots in Columbus don't bottle their brews unfortunately. Seventh Son would probably be my choice if you're ever in town. I've seen Columbus Brewing Company in stores but not a huge fan.

I'm in Columbus 3-4 times a year, and likely coming up in December :thumb:

Not sure...it been a few years since I hit the beer houses. You like more the sweet side or with spice?

agreed, not a big fan of it at all despite the hype.

This stuff is pretty fantastic for the holidays.

I think it's also a great time of year to drink the Southern Tier stouts (Choklat, Thick Mint, Creme Brulee). Can't go wrong with any of the dark Samuel Smith beers either.

People love their Christmas Ale, but I don't. I keep a few of their beers on hand at my place all the time - Dortmunder Gold Lager, Turntable Pils, and Burning River Pale Ale.

Some of their seasonals are really good, too.

They've been at it for a long time, too. Established in 1988, well before craft beers were cool.

Sierra Nevada has a winter seasonal called Celebration that is good - I usually get a few sixes of that every winter.
