He states that after the TO on 3 and 2 he was trying to score. Not pickup the first down. There was 57 seconds left with two timeouts left for the Skins. What was the rush to score? We were already in FG range. I thought the first down was a priority over taking a shot in the end zone. Even if Doctson catches the pass it leaves the Chiefs with 47 seconds left and 2 timeouts for the go ahead TD. Wasn't he worried about that with our banged up secondary?

Don't get me wrong JD should of caught it. Im just surprised Gruden was thinking TD first. That play was originally supposed to go to Reed on a double move another deep pass. Does anyone else think attacking the end zone was a bold move in that situation?

Perhaps but given the running issues there is no guarantee that they even make that third down. I don't really have an issue with the Redskins being bold in this situation since that mindset may pay off in the long term.

You think TD first because you are playing for the win and not just over time. Had Doctson secured the catch, it means the Chiefs have to score a TD just to force over time. Instead we ended up tieing and hoping the defense could force over time. Basically leaving it in the banged up defenses hands not to protect the lead, but force over time or lose.

I just watched the last play again. DAMN IT!!! Kc could of had Crowder for the easy first down. Chiefs didn't even cover him. Plus Kc looked at him too which makes it worst.

You still have time for the win if you play for the first down. That is my whole point. Even if JD makes the catch you still give KC a chance to BEAT you. I thought a first down and burning the clock trumped the big play for the end zone. Too much time on the clock to take that type of shot to the end zone. Why do you want to give the ball back to Smith?

Look, any given play and open receivers are missed running open. Such was the case with this play but we actually had a chance with a contested throw to Doctson he simply couldn't haul in. Hell, Reed had a step or so on his defender so it seems the defense was even caught off guard the Skins went for the kill shot there. Like the call and aggressiveness and it didn't work out for us.

HTTR!

It is always easier to play Mon morning QB in those situations. Sitting at home & watching this on tape you don't have to worry about all your different reads & receivers, the pass rush or the crowd. You could probably second guess most similar plays in the NFL.

Let's see - today alone I have seen you second guess Gruden, KC, Doctson & others. Keep in mind that they were playing possibly the best team in the NFL & in one of the toughest stadiums in the NFL & playing shorthanded with tons of injuries last nt. Sure they fell short & it was disappointing, but overall I have to give them credit. You need to stop always being so damn critical.

Not critical. Im just looking at the situation. The time on the clock meant something. You cant disregard it. Doctosn should be criticized. cmon on now.

Because when you are on the road in a hostile environment, you always play for the win. The NFL OT scenario is so fucked up that a coin toss usually determines the winner. I completely understand why he did what he did. The chiefs were probably thinking of protecting the 1st down thus making a scoring oppty a better chance. An yes, crowder may have been open as the check down, but so were Doctson and reed and primary and secondary reads.

ok, but even if Doctson makes the catch the game isn't over. Getting the first down almost guarnentees that the Chiefs don't get the ball back in regulation

Getting the TD means the only way the Cheifs win is to get a TD of their own. Score the TD, trust our defense to man up for the 60 seconds and if the Chiefs beat us so be it. Playing for overtime on the road is never a good thing if you have a choice. We went for the win, and settled for hoping the defense could stop not only a TD, but even a field goal. Grudne made the right call, Cousins made the right PLAYS on that final drive. I will leave it to you guys to come to your own conclusion as to what killed that drive.

the chances of the Chiefs coring a TD is much less than a FG. You also have to trust your defense. Our defense is vastly improved sans 2 areas. Mobile QBs still eat us up and talented TEs over the middle always seem to be WIDE OPEN.

Possibly. But they would have been defending the endzone exclusively. On that play, they were thinking like you. Defend the 1st down. That is evidenced by the fact that both Reed and Doctson got behind their man with not help over top.

True but we had a banged up secondary plus the Chiefs had two timeouts left. I am just looking at it from a clock standpoint. if we got the first down there was still time to score a TD b/c we also had two timeouts left with at least 40 second left to play at the 20 yard line. Its a guts call.

You are missing the point, dude. You go for the play they are least expecting to maximize your chances of success.

It had a better probability of winning that going into OT. This is what I am saying.

Don't beat Doctson up to much. He should have made the catch, but it was a very, very difficult catch and would have been #1 on the highlight reel this week if he did. He has talent. We need to use him more and he will reward us, i believe.
