31/54 371 yards passing and 3 TD's......I will take that every week

Wasn't enough to get the win. I want wins.

Will was directly responsible for the INT that killed a 4th down conversion, ending a potential scoring drive. He overthrew open WR's a number of times on deep balls... throws Skyler could have made in his sleep. He directly cost WVU at least 2 TD's on poorly thrown balls.

WVU will not have a vertical threat if its QB can't put some air under the ball.

Grier did miss some throws, but he seemed to improve as the game went on. WRs have to catch the ball too.
White dropped several in the last half that would have gone for big gains. QB play was bad in the first quarter, a lot of poorly thrown balls, but he came around. I did not see the star QB that we were led to think we were going to see. I still don't get the defense playing great for several series, then just taking a series off.

I can only recall one pass that was really overthrown after the first quarter, and it was just out of reach. White dropped some early too. It's game 1. The biggest improvement of the year comes between week 1 and 2.

Come on...he had no one to throw to on the INT..he made a throw hoping for a prayer..

vs VT for his 1st start ( for WVU anyway).
I haven't looked but I'd bet that's one of the best/most impressive first starts ever. Particularly against VT who is known for good defense.

Best first starts for WVU?

Best first starts against VT?

Not sure I'd put any of those opponents on VT's level defensively though, not to mention the rival game factor. OSU and KState are legit but those other programs aint on VT's level for sure. That's what I was meaning as far as impressive, it was impressive considering the opponent.

I don't think VT is on Bama's level defensively either or the LSU teams that we played and is wasn't their first start but for grins n giggles what were Geno and Clints numbers\ratings vs Bama and LSU? I think both had good games IIRC.

Dana went for it when we should have taken the easy 3 on that 4th down. Dana threw a hissy that took us out of FG range in the 3rd then instead of calling for a play on 3rd and 26 at mid field that would get us BACK into FG range we went for the end zone from mid field..:L.

Will took us down the field when VT left the door open and had Dana used our FG kicker like he should have we would have kicked another easy (inside the 25) FG for the win instead of needing a TD to tie it up. Will threw a INT when we should have been kicking a FG. They are both at fault but that's on Dana more than Will in my book, the loss is on Dana as well for not using our kicker like he should have.

  • 3rd and 1 at VT 23
(1:00 - 3rd) Crawford, Justin rush for 2 yards to the VATECH21, PENALTY WESTVIR holding (Cajuste, Yodny) 10 yards to the VATECH33, NO PLAY.

  • 3rd and 11 at VT 33
(0:55 - 3rd) WEST VIRGINIA Penalty, Personal Foul (TEAM) to the VTech 48

I get what you mean Rusher, but if we didn't get a single yard after the holding penalty, making it 3rd down and 11 from the 33, the attempt would have been from 50 yards out. I agree that Dana's penalty didn't help things, but I don't know Molina's distance nor do I think it would be automatic. We will never know.

I don't know..I was at the game there wasn't anytime during It I was second guessing what he was doing except maybe calling a timeout a little bit earlier inside of 3 minutes may have saved a play or two at the end of the game

That 2nd foul was on Dana, we had 3 RB's averaging more than 5 yards per carry and a QB that was on his way to nearly 400 yards passing. Stands to reason we would have moved the ball at least inside the 30 on 3rd down had he kept his cool and been set up for a FG that Molina should be able to make.
He didn't keep his cool so after the personal foul someone should have gotten in Grier's ear about getting into scoring position instead of going for the bomb, the odds are better and our offense is supposed to be about points points points. Send a guy or 2 deep and a guy across the middle for enough yards to get us back into FG range on 4th down but that's tough to do when the coach is losing his cool, that's on Dana imo but to be fair if he HAD told Grier to do that (it was there around the 20 had he thrown it in that area I believe it was Sills on the DVR) and Grier went outlaw like Howard used to do and done that himself then I guess that's a horse of a different color but we will never know.

The other was first play of the 2nd quarter (15:00), 4th and 2 from the VT 23 with the Hokies up 3-0 and we go for it on 4th down :nono:. The offense got us into scoring position and a chance to gain some momentum in a tough game and Dana took that away by gambling when he didn't need to...once again. No need for that, especially at that point in the game with that score.

He's being rushed on his back foot..and if I remember correctly the guy right behind him made the interception..

Why is Will's footwork off? He needs to be better than that.

The player circled on the lower left made the INT. The top right circle was the wide open receiver.

With Molina... nothing is a gimme. His one FG in this game bounced off the upright for chrissakes.

Dana threw a hissy fit on the personal foul penalty during the KO return. He did absolutely nothing during the phantom holding call on Cajuste other than step onto the field.

I don't care if you hate, but you gotta be accurate.
