Then he moves to the Red Sox, who were believed to be on the cutting edge of PED usage in the heart of the steroid era and he (and his numbers) blew up. But no, it's ridiculous to assume he juiced.

"he changed his approach."

Of course he did. lolz

When are the Mariners moving to Oklahoma?
A better question is where will the Thunder move next? Their time in Oklahomo is dwindling. Westbrook will leave after next season and then the Thunder will be a perennial 30-win team. The OKC rednecks will get tired of that real quick.

"Skinny dudes always get big and slug 100+ points more when they move to Boston and change their approach."

- Red Sox fanboys.

I believe Ortiz used something. I have no idea when he started or when and if he stopped. Hence the strawman reference. I dispute that his production increase from Minny to Boston amounts to anything more than a scintilla of evidence that he roided.

But if you believe that, then please find my Aaron Judge is on roids thread and agree with me.

Selling out the arena at 100% last season. Even if Westbrook takes off and the team sucks, it will take several years of poor attendance before a move is even contemplated. And those yokels will probably still go to games - they've got nothing else to do in January, Feb, March and April.

Sure, I'll agree with that. I'll even raise you and say I wouldn't be surprised if Jose Ramirez were juicing. Or Kluber. Or the guy in the indians' AAA bullpen hoping for a call up.

I figure that to this day, 75-85% of all pro athletes are using PEDs.

I think you have to be pretty naive to think otherwise.

I think Ortiz was juicing right through his retirement. May still be for all I know.

Also, just for shits and giggles. Without looking it up, would you mind sharing your definition of straw man with me?

Taking a statement or assertion, pushing it to the extreme, and then attributing it to a general or unspecified population. And then shooting it down if you so choose.

E.g. "All Boston fans think Ortiz is clean and would never have bent the rules or taken anything that was prohibited".

or "people say that Ortiz was clean as the driven snow and there is no proof he took anything. Well I'm here to tell you that's wrong because of . . . . . . . "

Ortiz had a career SLG% of .532 in the minors and showed plenty of power throughout the minors as a Twin. I wouldn't be surprised if he used PEDs (or any player, really), but it's not like he was Yuniesky Betancourt. Ortiz batted .272/.339/.500 with 53 extra base hits and a 120 OPS+ in 125 games in 2002.

One of the Sox's September call ups gotta be Bryce Brentz. 4th in the Int. League in OPS and 2nd in homers. In a virtual tie for the best homer rate per AB in the league. Getting long in the tooth too - probably ready for the majors and should be used as some sort of trade bait or kept as a 4th outfielder. Sox should also consider getting him some reps at 1st. Hopefully he can hit some in September.

What about Ryan Westmoreland?

That's what the Blow Jays said about Bautista too.

Ortiz is dirty as a 2 year old's diaper.
