Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 45 | Run: 45 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

Part of a Lakewood (Calif.) High program that has spawned 15 big leaguers as well as Phillies top prospect J.P. Crawford, Davis missed all of his senior season in 2015 after breaking his left wrist in a golf-cart mishap. Because they liked what they had seen of him on the showcase circuit, the Dodgers selected him in the fifth round and paid him second-round money ($918,600). After scuffling during the regular season in the low Class A Midwest League, he topped Great Lakes with 16 runs produced in eight playoff games as the Loons won the championship.

Davis offers both a high ceiling and a low floor. He already shows some bat speed and feel for hitting, with the promise of more once he packs some much-needed strength onto his skinny 6-foot-4 frame. He also has an overly aggressive approach at the plate and won't translate his upside into production unless he becomes more disciplined.

Taller than most shortstops, Davis has fringy speed and lacks the quickness typical of the position. He made 20 errors in 80 games at shortstop last year, looking more comfortable at third base. His range is better suited for the hot corner, where he has the hands and arm to become a solid defender, and he has also seen extensive action at second base this year.

Told you JD would get his ass kicked by the Dodgers.

What an abysmal, expected return.

Regrettably so

It looks like they weren't confident in signing him at years end and took whatever they could get. It's the right move if Darvish was going to leave, but a disappointing return.

Saw you guys mention "JD" thought you guys were talking about Jerry Dipoto (M's GM). For a second there I thought it was the M's who landed Darvish.

Not fair that the Dodgers are this good and just got better.

Haha..... it does suck that they didn't really give up much to get an ace quality pitcher. They have billions of dollars and could easily resign him, and who knows that might go after ohtani too. I just wish JD got more for a pitcher that could win 4 or 5 playoff games for the dodgers if they go deep.

Except for Calhoun, this will take years to pan out as to how JD did In the trade.

Took what he could get and it doesn't appear it was anywhere close to a haul but anyone thinking it would be was not real bright anyway. Got something for a player they would likely lose in FA is what it boils down to

Well I'm just happy that the Mariners won't have to face Darvish in our futile attempt to get a wild card spot.

Gave LAD the best pitcher available for squat. Would rather have kept him, pushed for a contract these last few months, taken the 75th pick, and enjoyed watching him for a few more months.
