and last year was a fluke year?

Is this really the true Red Sox and how their offense truly is? Were players just having a one "hit" season but in reality this is what we as Red Sox fans are going to be stuck with?

Xander and Betts look lost at the dish and taking swings they never were last year. Xander seems to just be "flinging" his bat at the ball and as a result the ball just gets popped out or he strikes out.

They can not hit with runners in scoring position.. Yes I know last we there were stats to say otherwise but in reality they truly can't. There is no true offensive leader who is pulling players together or anything like that.

Maybe, ya know, it has something to do with Bogaerts getting hit in the wrist a few weeks ago? And Betts has a 108 wRC+. He's had a disappointing year offensively, but I can live with that given his amazing defense and baserunning.

The offense has been a general disappointment, but I think there's reason to expect improvement. We all knew there was going to be some kind of drop off with Ortiz retiring, but virtually every player's under-performing their projections right now.

RISP stats are pretty random. How did that clutch hitting for the 2013 Cardinals work out the next year?

Well, they were amazing last season so that could have been a fluke and this is the true season and what to expect for this team.

Even BEFORE Xander was hit on the wrist he wasn't close to what he did last season either

or, you know, we're barely past the halfway marker and one bad month is going to hurt your stats more than it would over six months.

as for that:

Bogaerts in 2016: .294/.356/.446, 113 wRC+
Bogaerts in 2017 (before getting hit in the wrist): .308/.361/.455, 112 wRC+

Despite the drop in home runs, his overall power production wasn't far off from last year.

when they only score about 2 runs a game... Leaving those players on there is killing this team..

The bullpen being over-worked hasn't helped either

Yes but he sill looks completely lost out there at the plate. His swing is terrible right now... Betts swing looks even worse

Mookie's BABIP is .266 this year, which is well below his career norm (.306). I'd be shocked if his numbers don't improve.

I'm not saying he hasn't looked bad as of late because he has. But my point is that you said he wasn't anywhere near where he was last year even before getting hit, and that isn't true.

Mookie had a pretty slow start last year too.

I guess everyone else sucking has skewed my feelings towards Mookie

For all the hand wringing about the Sandoval contract (and rightfully so), Hanley's contract hasn't been all that great either. He's paid to hit and he has a 105 OPS+. He was good last year (128), but he was pretty godawful in his first year (89).

That he has and he clearly is not doing that... and why the hell hasn't Farrell done something about making him keep his damn helmet on! Jesus F!

Players slump man, they're almost never going to look good when they're struggling at the plate. It's a 162 game season. You're bound to get worked up when almost everyone is slumping simultaneously.

Yes but when they slump together it's awful.. It all starts imo with absolutely NO leadership! Regardless of what Pedroia stated
