Hopefully with this signing it will be the end of hatcher, Golsten, and kearse. I still believe that we are going Dl in the 1st round.

Dean, its entirely too early to get ones heart set on a direction we will go. And with 20 teams picking ahead of us, its even more a stretch so lock into a direction this team might go in.

Keim...

The Washington Redskins wanted to bolster their defensive line this offseason -- and they got an early jump on doing just that Tuesday.

A source confirmed that the Redskins signed veteran defensive end Ziggy Hood, who played in only two games this past season, to a one-year deal. The Redskins could sign Hood because he was not on a roster at season’s end.

Washington needs to strengthen the line because it has a free agent nose tackle in Terrance Knighton, who, at this point, is unlikely to return and another one in long-time Redskin Kedric Golston. But the end/tackle is, at best, 50-50 on returning. Plus, end Jason Hatcher, whom the team wants to keep around, is mulling retirement. Even if Hatcher wants to come back, the Redskins likely would have to do something with his cap number ($8.5 million).

But Hood is a former first-round pick who has plenty of experience in a 3-4 front. He was a former first-round pick by Pittsburgh, where he spent his first five seasons. He made 46 starts for the Steelers before signing a four-year deal with Jacksonville. There were questions about whether or not Hood was a great fit as a 3-4 end in Pittsburgh -- he was a three-technique tackle at Missouri. The Jaguars moved him inside, but he was a reserve who was reportedly on the bubble in his second training camp before suffering a torn planter fascia that landed him on injured reserve.

One difference in the Redskins’ 3-4, however: The linemen play more one-gap as opposed to the Steelers’ two-gap. But Hood also could help as an interior rusher when the Redskins use their nickel or dime packages -- in which the linemen are used more as they would be in a 4-3 front.

Hood is considered more of a run-stopper and has 12.5 career sacks, all but one coming with the Steelers. Jacksonville released Hood last season after placing him on injured reserve. After the Jaguars let him go, he signed with Chicago where he played two games before he was cut in December. The Jaguars cut him despite having signed him to a four-year deal in 2015.

good luck with him on your squad, he just didn't work out when he was with us in Pittsburgh. Hope he can finally find a niche for himself, perhaps the Redskins' defensive system will be to his benefit.. . .

If RB and C are addressed in FA. We should be looking at the defensive side of the ball in the draft. Reed,Butler,Nske,Bilings,Rankins, Bullard,Dodd,Johnson,Washington. One of these guys should be the pick in round one or 2. Their is so much DL talent in this draft we MUST get one. Especially the state of our DL. Not to get one would be very foolish.

To lock in on a position before the combine, free agency, and knowing what we already have would be foolish.

Let me ask, say by some miracle Treadwell falls to us at 21, a polished #1 WR with size, speed and skills.

Say we have also reworked and kept JAckson, Garcon and added a few pieces in FA to the D-line...

You dont seriously pass on the best WR in the draft after you just stated that D-line talent in this draft is so deep that Godzilla would drown, especially in light of the fact that the WR talent in this draft is NOT deep at all.

All Im saying is, we should all wait until at least mid march minimum before saying shit like... we have got to get one of these players. Especially since we might end up resigning Knighton and the talent level between the guy we get at 21, and the guy we get at 42 might not be that big a difference any way. Least wise not on the D-line.

PLus IM kinda hoping we draft Cody Whitehair to play RG and bump Moses to backup OT. :)

if "IF" was a Fifth we all would be drunk

perhaps we pick up a miller at RB but i dont see a center that fits the age requirement out there . we should be looking at defense no matter what we do in free agency and picking a couple of d/lineman up would be smart but not over the BPA

we need a game changer first and foremost

Good teams do not go crazy in pre-draft free agency.

Good teams go into the draft looking for BPA.

Then they fill holes in their team with post-draft free agency.

I swear the fans of this team got so used to the backward ass way of team building under Cerrato, they do not know the correct way now.

Good sign... I was discussing this guy last week with some friends of mine. I was hopeful that the Steelers would look at bringing him back in as a depth guy.

Like Gooch noted... It didn't work out with him in PIT. His years in PIT were under Lebeau's schemes and that involved eating blockers and controlling the LOS rather than pass rushing. He wasn't big enough to be consistent in that scheme. But he was a good player. Not sure what kind of shape he is in after the JAX injury, but I'm sure he'll provide quality depth.

Well then it is a good thing that the fans are not the ones making the picks nor do they have any influence on the moves for this team under the current regime. As a fan we should all just be happy that we finally have a very good front office & trust that they will make the right moves.

GUess we will have to wait and see. This time last year no one thought the best player in the draft would make it to the 5th spot, and some SWORE there was no way the Skins would pass on said named player.
