Radio guys were doing this but I missed the callers. They were asking you to name your favorite lesser known Redskin, no Riggo or Sonny obviously. Thought it was a pretty good idea.

Mine is Neil Olkewicz. Despite being one of the top 70 all time Redskins he was always under the radar. Every summer they would bring in someone to take his job but when the dust settled Neil was the one standing at the end. You younger guys didn't see it but those early 80's Redskins had one of the best run defenses I've ever seen. It started with Butz and Grant up front but the guy to make it all work was Neil Olkewicz.

Well I liked DGF's post because Olkie came to mind first for me also. I like your choices also Sty, Charlie was a great blocker for my all-time favorite Redskin Larry Brown and Len Hauss was Mr. Steady. Played what seemed like forever and was an outstanding center.

Thought of Hanburger also Cali. Couldn't decide if he was unsung or not but compared to others he probably was. Who didn't love the Hangman and yeah his name was cool.

Two other guys I liked a lot that I didn't think got a lot of press were Mark Murphy (now president of the Packers) and Mike Bass.

Herb Mulkey - No college .... they made the movie about the Eagle who had a similar path but I believe Mulkey played a little longer than guy in Philadelphia.

9 time All Pros do not qualify as unsung regardless of how cool their name is. Still trying to understand why he is not in the HOF

Herb Mulkey, great pull. Was a FA, ran lighting fast 40. I remember a game when I was in Jr. High, early 70's, and we were battling the Cards. We got close, kicked off and Don Shy brought it back for a TD. The Cards kicked off and Herb Mulkey brought it back the other way. I believe it was the first back to back kickoff returns.

Nice one.

I got another one: Henry Ellard. But what a quietly great career that guy had. When he came here he was all but done, yet he was very productive and made me wonder just how good he was with the Rams all those years. That 15 yard square in from Frerotte to Ellard was a great play for the Redskins.

Winner winner chicken dinner. IMO he was the epitome of one of the cornerstones of Redskin success. Blue collar, didn't say anything, wasn't flashy, just did his job and when the opportunity to make presented itself. He took advantage of it. He played in 3 decades, the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and played in 4 of the Skins 5 Super Bowls. He played in more games with the Skins than any other Redskin player except Darrell Green and is one of 3 players, along with DG and Sammy Baugh, to play 16 years with the Skins.

Fred Stokes! Wow forgot all about that guy. Yeah Monte Coleman is a really popular choice, total respect. I remember when he was young he was always hurt, hamstrings mostly. I keep that in mind when we have young players that seem to have the injury bug.*

I thought of Monte, good choice. Donnie Warren was like a 6th lineman. He meant a lot to the run game. Good choices by everyone. :suds:
