RIO DE JANEIRO – DeAndre Yedlin could become the first member of the United States' World Cup 2014 squad to cash in on his tournament performance after being linked to Italian club giant AS Roma.

According to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, a deal has been virtually finalized to send Yedlin from the Seattle Sounders of Major League Soccer to Roma in Serie A, Italy's top league.

Sunday's report out of Italy included a scenario that would see Yedlin complete the current MLS campaign before making the switch. Roma, one of the biggest clubs in Italy and primarly owned by an American investment group, finished second in Serie A last season and will play in the UEFA Champions League next season.

There was no mention of a potential transfer fee, which in all likelihood would need to be in the region of $8 million or more for Seattle to consider letting Yedlin go.

When he leaves, I'll be sad to see him go, but ultimately it will be a good move for his career if he gets regular playing time. I hope he doesn't go over there just to play in reserve matches.

He's one of the future pieces of the USMNT for 2018. I can understand it.

He needs the playing time but if he does, excellent experience. However I'm not sure the Italian league is the best way for a 2 way defensfive back.

He'll definitely learned(should) to play defense for sure...

Based on his play in this tournament he has earned it. Wish him the best of luck/ 2018 can't come here fast enough.. I predict 6 goals from him in 2018!

lets keep in mind, this is a good professional move for Yedlin for the obvious reasons...

lets not, as US soccer fans, overreact or overrate Yedlin after a season or 2 of playing in Europe. Lets see him grow into the role, where he'll either succeed and make an impact or settle in and be a solid back.

Greg Seltzer of No Short Corners is reporting that the potential deal for Seattle Sounder Deandre Yedlin to join Serie A side AS Roma is no more.

The report indicated Napoli are still involved in discussions with the Seattle and Major League Soccer. The report also shed some light on the Bayern Munich rumors. saying “From what I am told it seems quite unlikely.”

With no details about why the potential deal fell apart, Seattle for their part had been seeking nearly $6.5 million dollars for the services of Yedlin.

For now, Deandre Yedlin will stay in Seattle and continue to help his team in the second-half of the MLS season.

This one wasn't making sense to me - Roma's been pretty well-served by Benatia and Castan, and have Romagnoli waiting in the wings. Unless Benatia was leaving (although this looks unlikely now with Mangala headed to Man City), no need to spend anymore money on defence.
