Redskins waived S D.J. Swearinger.

Swearinger said he was called into coach Jay Gruden's office Monday morning and informed of his release. An every-snap player who had played well this season, the move is a surprise based on the timing, but Swearinger had worn out his welcome in the locker room. The final straw was the safety saying he "probably watches more film than the coaches," after Washington's loss to the Titans on Saturday. Swearinger should quickly find a new home, likely with a playoff team.

I guess signing Dix back is a priority. Looks like Manusky is safe too.

This tells me Jay is 100% coming back. No lame duck coach would have been granted that type of authority to cut a pro bowl alternate.

A

Swearinger is a guy who plays hard and once he leaves this toxic culture of losing and laziness, he flourishes and wins even more.

B

The team has finally had enough and Jay finally grew a pair and this decision may hurt him and the team in the short term, but now players may fear Jay just a little and might pay even bigger dividends in the long run.

Not sure which one comes to fruition.

I knew jay will be back, Manusky I not sure. If they fire manusky after this move I would be surprised.

I think Todd Bowles is gonna be the next DC
Just my guess. JP said as much in Sheehan's podcast. This was not about defending Manusky. Jay had already warned DJ. This was about DJs open defiance of Jay's wishes.

Bowles would be a great fit here. I hope that happens

I think Dan likes Jay and other than year 1 he has been around .500, the last two years with a ton of injuries.

I applaud the move. You can't throw everyone under the bus like that. Any team of have been a part of as a player or a coach you just don't do that.

Actually Jay was pretty smart about it. He waited to see if they stayed in the playoff hunt. Once they were out … see you DJ.

He just blames everyone but himself.

I really think this was a good move by Gruden. He has got to establish some lines of respect for him, his staff, and the team. You let this crap fly and all hell will eventually break loose.

I also agree with Dean. Gruden is going nowhere. This is not the action of a lame duck coach.

Very depressing the state the Redskins are in now. They just cut one of their best players and one of the FEW players that play hard every week. DJ was right with what he said. But he should have kept that in house.

Gibbs would have cut DJ too, but Gibbs would have commanded enough respect within the locker room that DJ would have never pulled that stunt. In addition, Gibbs would have never hired a guy like Munusky.

You see, Gruden is so afraid to hire his replacement that he keeps picking also ran DCs. He actually hired a guy that was in charge of a defense that didn't win a game the entire season.

If Gruden replaces Manusky with another guy that doesn't have the chops or resume to be a HC, then he deserves what he gets. He needs to smarten up, because no matter who the DC is next year, Jay will get fired if this shit continues. Injuries or not.

Jay should have NO SAY in the next DC. If that doesn't work for him then it's been fun.
