I do a lot of fishing in Marshall County, SD. He's from the next county over. It's small town close communities. A lot like Nebraska. That's why I wasn't concerned about him going any further from home. But Minny is a different story altogether.

It would be the only big job more ideal for him.

No I don't think so. Minnesota just fired a really good coach with a proven track record.....they also did it following a pretty good season with a 2nd round finish.

They're a basketball school looking to fry big fish. Tim Miles is a startup coach in the eyes of most. Shaka is a strong possibility as irule said.

Luckily for us Tim Miles isn't sexy enough yet. Stupid places like Minnesota who think they are the next Kentucky will keep trying to hire big name coaches.......just like they did with Tubby

Also, we are sitting in a really good position.....because by the time Tim Miles becomes that coach that programs find attractive, Nebraska is already going to have established itself as a new power that 4 and 5 star recruits are going to want to play for. Especially with the facilities and arena we have.

Miles is going to build a Dynasty here.

He also has at least some relationship with Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones, who are the biggest priority recruits in Minnesota history. If they could land the top two recruits, it would be a game changer.

Tim Miles is making $1.4 million/yr at Nebraska

Tubby Smith was making $2 million/yr at Minnesota

I tend to agree with JJM on this. "Tim Miles isn't sexy enough yet".

I think if he were offered he'd lose some sleep on the issue and I'd give him a 70% chance of leaving. Minnesota would be an ideal fit for his family and instead of spending the next 2-3 years trying to build yet another NCAA tournament caliber team, he'd be walking into an established talent pool and probable NCAA's next season.

This will be Miles last 'project job' though.

1.4 million is a ton for a Nebraska Basketball coach though. I am sure we are paying Tim Miles that much because we plan on him being here for the long haul.

The overall consensus from Minnesota fans is they believe that they could not afford Tubby anymore beings that he wasn't producing the Kentucky-like team they had hoped for.....so that makes things a little more interesting.

Minny gave Tubby a $50K/yr raise and contract extention through 2016/2017 just last August.

That is interesting.....

Wonder why then that they decided to let him go after what was really a fine season in the best conference in the country.

There was a clause in the new contract requiring an end of season review in 2012/2013

He went 8-10 in conference after 6 seasons.

Do you think that was worth $2 million/yr?

11-12 (23-15) (6-12) NIT Runner Up
12-13 (21-13)(8-10) NCAA 2nd Round

I guess he needed to have a winning conference record for once and get to the Sweet 16.

Losing to Nebraska couldn't have helped matters.

The question is if any high profile coarch wants to go into UCLA or Minny with that pressure of Elite 8/Final Four or bust.

Obviously, when (not if) sMiles wins Nebraska's first tourney game, he will be in for a huge raise.
