Would Charles have had a better shot at a ring if he landed with the Lakers instead of the Suns?

Or, was he screwed regardless because Jordan and the Bulls were unbeatable?

Was there any other team than Phoenix that was close to getting you? I got traded to the Lakers one day [in 1992] and they retracted the deal. No way. Yeah. The Sixers backed out. It was going crazy for two weeks so I knew it would come down to Portland, [the] Lakers or Phoenix. So I get a call from my agent one morning and he said, “Philly has traded you to the Lakers.” So I went to lunch and started drinking. I’m f---ing so excited that I am going to the Lakers. Three hours later I get a f---ing phone call from my agent saying that the Sixers backed out of the deal.

Suns had a stacked roster that year. KJ is one of the best PG's all-time and Thunder Dan and Ainge could both stroke. Plus Ced, Miller, etc. Most years they would win it all, but MJ blocked him. Talent was there. Suns just have terrible luck :(

1st off.. Jordan and the Bulls weren't unbeatable. I saw them lose. I remember the Pistons.

Also the 1992-1993 Lakers were 38-44. Good enough for 8th seed. So no, Barkley would not have made an 8th seed team better than the Bulls. Barkley was the type of player who needed another superstar to win a title. He was great.. but never had that other guy until he got so old he found himself in Houston.

Jordan + Pippen + halfway decent PF + 3pt shooter was pretty close to unstoppable

Jordan + bunch of dudes is obviously beatable

I agree with this. But Jordan got stopped by Orlando one year with Pippen and decent 3 point shooter. The 1989 Chicago Bulls had Jordan, Pippen, Grant, Paxson, and BJ Armstrong..they got stopped.

Jordan is the best player I have ever seen. But the further we get away, the more unbeatable the guy becomes. The Knicks and the Pacers both forced 7 game series with him. I know the Bulls won those games, and those are the games that make great teams great... But let's all be honest, if a series goes 7 games, either team COULD have won.

6-0 in the Finals says differently :noidea:

But, I was really referring to the Series where the Suns lost to the Bulls.

Yeah...I put the first question in the wrong spot.

Should have been:

1. Better chance with Lakers

2. Better chance with Suns

3. No chance * see Jordan.

Sorry...it was my first time trying to post a poll.

Could be wrong, but as I recall Barkley was at his best as a one-man show in Philly. Never really took to being a complementary player as well as he needed to in order to win a championship.

I think thats fair. I think its also fair to say that MJ beat the Suns, though, and was beating the Lakers too.

31pts in game 1, 42pts in game 2, 44pts in game 3, 55pts in game 4, 41pts in game 5, 33pts in game 6

Unless that Lakers team made some other moves along with trading for Barkley, he likely only improves them enough to maybe get a 5 seed, so his best chance vs. those MJ Bulls was with the Suns.

Now, if they had gotten him about 3 years later when they got Shaq and Kobe................

IDK, if Karl Malone couldn't win a ring with Shaq & Kobe, why would Knarles Barkley?

Only if Jordan only played those 6 years. The other years in his career he was beaten before the Finals.

If you are claiming Jordan was unbeatable in the Finals, okay there is evidence, but not that he was unbeatable overall or in the playoffs.

Hmmmm, very true.

It worked for Glenn Rice and Mitch Richmond.

I have always been a Barkley fan, even though he was an uber-idiot, and would have loved to see him get a ring.

He clearly went to the Rockets a year to late.

Yes, finals.

Barkley made the finals and faced Chicago.

That's what I meant by " opposing team ".

But, obviously, that was as clear as mud.

Sorry.

LOL Always knew that simply counting rings is an incomplete way to evaluate a player, Sir Doobster.
