tourney champion...

It would prevent tanking out of embarrassment and i bet it would draw a huge audience and tv ratings

villanova vs Philly would be the matchup this year...who wins

Philly would murder them and it wouldn't really be close.

All these debates about college teams beating the a professional team are dumb. The Philly team, while bad in NBA terms, is still comprised of guys who were the best players, or at least top 2 players on each of their respective college teams.

The guys in the NBA are bigger, faster, more skilled and most importantly Professional basketball players for a reason.

Not close at all. Villanova is a great team, but they don't have a single sure fire NBA player on their roster. Chemistry counts for a lot, but it can't make up this much ground.

The only time this would even be entertaining is when the college champ is a super team, like last year's Kentucky squad that did not win.

I'm sure a 138-44 game would be really entertaining.

I never thought of the nba doing something like that. I think that would be great for the game but I doubt we will ever see it

How could this be great for the game? I don't see one realistic positive that could come out of this game.

Don't see it ever happening. Years ago, there used to be a game between the NFL champion and a team of college all-stars (all seniors). The NFL teams went 31-9-2. 8 of the college all stars wins were between 1934 and 1958 when being an NFL player was essentially a part time job.

The game was eventually cancelled after the 1976 game with the NFL on a 12 game winning streak.

While the idea of having the NCAA champ play the NBA's worst team is an interesting idea, I agree with most on here who say that it would be a blowout by the NBA team most of the time. It would likely be UConn women's team type blowouts.

You'd likely have a game here and there where a college team with a couple of legit NBA caliber players has those players get hot, have a big game and keep it close or maybe even pull the occasional upset. But the vast majority of the games wouldn't be much of a contest. The college team simply wouldn't have the depth of the NBA team.

College teams don't have the overall size of an NBA team and I can't think of any I've seen that play defense anything close to what the NBA does. Unless you allowed zone defense in those games most teams would be lost trying to stay up with an NBA offense.

Now if the CBA was still in existence and you wanted to do something like relegation then you might have something to prevent tanking. And something that makes for a lot more national interest in games with teams at the bottom of the league. But that isn't going to happen either. Tanking is here to stay at least for now.

Especially since most of philly's roster are lotto picks that dominated in college.

That squad and Kentucky's team from last year are the only two college squads I can think of that would have the horses to realistically compete. Even with those teams, they might get 1 or 2 in a best of 7 series against the 6ers.

The 2009-2010 Kentucky team is the best bet to beat an NBA squad. Here was their team:

John Wall
Eric Bledsoe
Darius Miller
Patrick Patterson
DeMarcus Cousins

With Josh Harrellson and Daniel Orton off the bench.

LOL.

They are actually the lone example of a college team that might be better than a few pro teams. Hell, they might even make the WNBA playoffs. Breanna Stewart might be the best female player in the world right now.

Do you all remember when Rebecca Lobo was drafted in whatever second tier pro men's league was in place at the time? That was funny. UConn women are phenomenal, but there is a night and day difference between women and men. UConn women could not beat a good high school men's team, let alone a tourny squad.
