Props to the OP for stating the obvious. I always though Springsteen was a joke. His songs are purposely written as "odes to americana" to be as mass marketed as possible. What makes it particularly of note is that Born To Run is consistently hailed in several people's Top 10 lists of best rock songs of all time. Listen to it; it's horrid. Sounds like the lyrics are out of key, off tempo, the riffs are sloppy and spiraling. Super gross.
