The Danish player that scored the OT winner works in a bank, and plays hockey part time.

Jesus Christ.

I'd say he picked a great time to cash in...He's a money player...Did he bank it in off an opposing player?

I'll stop now.

no one mentioned that the US has lost both of its games now, with the toughest test of its group (Finland) still to come?

boy, what a terrific shot by Tavares.
roofs a one-timer from a real sharp angle.

hey, what do you know... powerplay is on the board early.

Stamkos with another powerplay goal. 2-0 late in the 1st.

geez, Canada is sleepwalking through this one.
winning every single battle, but not putting anything together.

looks like it could be a coming-out tournament for Kris Russell though,
he's looked very strong in four periods so far.

Fantastic skater, great puck moving defenseman, would love to have him on the Flames.

each individual player is miles head of the competition,
but the Canadian team have not really been putting any passes together.
ergo... good players, not a good team yet.

the powerplay working is a step in the right direction, though.

I just dont know about that ... I like him as a player but i dont think he'll ever overcome the size to become an NHL star ... international hockey is the perfect fit for him

reminds me of Cory Murphy in 07

3 for 3 on the powerplay, though they sure used all of that one.

you could be right. i noticed he was good in the few games against van that I saw him in, but this tourney is a new level. I'm trying not to judge him against the competition, but against his peers. Myers is at another level, but Russel has been the next best d-man out there imho.
I remember thinking hos spart TB was for picking up Murphy after that tourney. and then.... not so much.

now that Giordano... talk about a power-play specialist :p

huh. make that 4 for 4 on the PP.
Latvian goalie coming unraveled a bit... striking out at the screeners on the last couple of whistles.
edit.... goalie got the yoink.

The US loss today proves why they aren't on the level as Canada internationaly. We are good at every event we go to more often than not, but with the Americans, anything other than a big time tourney like the Olympics they don't perform well.

this tourney speaks to Canada's depth more than anything.

US did very well (obviously) in the Olympics, though I personally thought that they played over their heads in that one.
however, Olympics is a 'best on best' tourney, and they were right there.
In the recent World Junior tournaments, US has been pretty dangerous, including of course winning the last one.

I wouldn't use this tourney as a barometer of too much.

Good for Latvia to get on the board today...

6-1 Canada in the 3rd period.

they got a post on the next shift, too.

Canada played like shit in the 3rd.
hard to tell what this team will look like when the tough games arrive.
