With Drummond and Smith on the roster, Detroit has to find a way to get rid of either Smith or Monroe, and Smith's contract is extremely hard to move at this point in his career.
So, instead of throwing a bunch of pieces for Kevin Love, why not trade David Lee for Greg Monroe and Charlie Villanueva? The numbers match up, and it makes sense for both parties involved.
We'd have to take on Villanueva's contract for one year, but it's worth getting a young PF with tremendous potential in Monroe. Detroit gets Lee who should be able to contribute right away and play well with a guy like Drummond in the front court, and they get rid of CV's contract.
