Villanueva, 21, has a .285/.356/.421 batting line in 425 plate appearances with Class A Myrtle Beach this year. The third baseman entered the 2012 season as the 100th-best prospect in MLB, according to Baseball America. He has a .286/.350/.438 batting line in four minor league seasons.

Hendricks, 22, has a 2.82 ERA with 7.7 K/9 and 1.0 BB/9 in 130 2/3 innings over the course of 20 starts at Myrtle Beach. The 6'2" right-hander has 150 strikeouts and just 21 walks in 166 1/3 innings since being selected in the eighth round of the 2011 draft.

Sounds like some solid but long aways prospects, good and fair deal for Dempster

Just glad we got a solid rotation arm

Just a little more on them.

Cubs acquired RHP Kyle Hendricks and 3B Christian Villanueva from the Rangers for RHP Ryan Dempster.
Hendricks is a late bloomer that Chicago hopes will continue to develop. A 39th-round pick out of high school by the Angels and later an eighth-rounder in 2011 out of Dartmouth by the Rangers, Hendricks burst onto the scene with a 2.02 ERA over 35 2/3 innings over his professional debut. That earned him a spot in the Top-20 prospects of the Northwest League. This year, he's continued to surge, going 5-8 with a 2.82 ERA over 130-plus innings (20 starts) for Class-A Myrtle Beach. Hendricks rarely reaches 90 mph with his fastball, but he attacks the strike zone with a varied five-pitch arsenal

Baseball America rated Villanueva as the game's 100th best prospect prior to this season. The 21-year-old Guadalajara, Mexico native is a career .286/.350/.438 hitter over four seasons on the farm. He's currently at the High-A level and is a few years away from the bigs.

Like the Dempster Trade. The Big Thing is that the Rangers didn't have to Trade Profar, Olt or Perez to Get Him. Doesn't quite match the Lee Trade of Two Years Ago. But Jon Daniels has done it again. As long as the Big Three Prospects were involved it wasn't going to happen. I didn't think it was Possible. Gets the Players Motivated in the Clubhouse. This is what Players want. A Front Office that will do anything to help them Get to the Playoffs and Win.

Add Martin to that list too.

After Wash came out publicly and said "we need a pitcher" it's a good thing something got done. Imagime walking into the clubhouse tonite without something happening more than getting Soto.

I'm not impressed with Dempster. Wish we could have gotten Willingham, though that might have been a false rumor from the twittersphere.

Oh well, we didn't pay much and got something that should help a bit. Not an Ace, but a solid arm.

Feliz is done for the season. And Tommy John may be visiting him soon.

Well, now its public.

Feliz out until 2014.

Never should have stretched him out. Just doesn't have enough stuff at the major league level. He likely will never throw with same velocity again. It is a real shame what has happened to him.

Actually most guys come back throwing with increased velocity

They usually have decreased command and control for about half a season

it's official, Oswalt has been relegated to the bullpen so i guess Feldman inherits the 5th starter spot

Dempster is a very reliable innings eater that has had a great year so far. Is he a true TORP? No, but we needed him bad and got him for a good price. Props to JD for not buckling under pressure to trade Olt or Perez. Especially for a 2 month rental or a couple of pitchers I don't believe are any better than Dempster.

As he should. Maybe Feldman will keep his shit together. He's looked much better every start lately.

Romeo, don't ask me how I know this, you wouldn't believe me anyhow, but trust me on this one: Feliz will never start again for Texas. He will come back in a bullpen role, or he won't come back at all.

Feliz has pretty good stuff, he didn't need to throw 100mph to be an effective starter. He'll be fine.

You're right, I don't believe you KNOW anything. That said, I was never totally on board with the Feliz to the rotation experiment. He will always be a bullpen piece IMO.

Feliz's secondary stuff is average at best and he loses the ability to find the strike zone with regularity. He'll never be a great starter IMO.

Dang ... what are the odds of that?
