Relatives coming from Boston this weekend, need some good whiskey for them. One of them loves a "old fashioned" before dinner, the two others like it straight up. I prefer a diet coke with mine, they usually make fun of me,whatever. Any ideas would be great, and preferably under 50 bones....thanks.

Specifically whiskey, or is Scotch also on the table? For straight up, and just over 50 bucks (55.99) Laphroaig 10 is fantastic. If you need to ruin it with diet coke, you probably won't like it. But you will score with your relatives.

I'm a bourbon fan over other whiskeys and in the Seattle area. Go pick up a bottle of Buffalo Trace for around $25. Great bourbon for the money.

If you really want to get adventurous, take a trip over to Brouwer's Cafe in Fremont. They not only have a world class whiskey selection, but they're among the elite beer bars in the world. A nice glass of Pappy Van Winkle bourbon there is well worth the money. They also have a custom blended 4 Roses bourbon that is amazing.

Can't go wrong with Buff Trace or Knob Creek, but I still prefer Makers Mark. Just picked up a new bottle yesterday and fittingly enough it had silver and blue wax instead of red. I'm assuming that is a Cowboys tribute bottle...and god knows I need that bottle for supporting the Boys.

I'll toss this in the mix even if it's not exactly what your considering.

Troy & Sons Whiskey Platinum Moonshine. Dang good.

Eagle Rare it's my go to. It's a 10 year single barrel and isn't too hard on the wallet either. Usually around 30 bucks.

Not sure of the availability on the west coast, but if you can find it then look for this:

You can't go wrong with Makers or Jameson and neither one of them cost too much.

Makers is good. Jameson it's okay, but too much flowery and sweetness for me. I like my whiskey full and smooth. Maybe just a little oily.

I'm with a lot of you guys, Maker's and Knob are usually what's in my cabinet, I'm not a Jack guy like Bluto here.

Decided to try a bottle of Maker's instead of JD, out of curiosity and remembering it being discussed on this forum. Just the basic stuff. It was on a marginal sale, so $3 more than for a bottle of Jack. It's actually quite good.. definitely a bit smoother.

Bourbon is always better than Tennessee mash.
