My money is it is this year if we're just talking about starting a game be it injury or a locked up playoff spot. I really doubt Smith is losing his job. He just isn't of the same ilk as Matt Cassel, Mike Glennon, Chad Henne, Matt Flynn, etc.

Agreed...in terms of losing his gig in KC...not this yr unless Smith gets hurt or the bottom completely falls out of the season.

This start is a win/win for KC...the season and trade value for Smith has to at least be stabilizing if not going up.

Smith will get traded to the Jags or maybe even AZ. Arians is 65 soon...is that too old to be starting over with a rookie QB?...they might draft somebody, but could be in the market for another stopgap QB too.

A. Smith is not a dynamic QB, but he's a legit, proven starter...maybe a better way of saying it is those other names you mentioned are not of his elk.

I'm betting if KC locks up the division by week 15 or 16 he'll get a start in week 17. Only way he starts any time sooner is by the obvious... Smith gets injured.

Well, 1 is hard to predict and it's blatantly obvious that Mahomes would start if Alex got hurt...
