we've gone the cheap bullpen route and we suck in both the starting rotation and bullpen.

Would be nice to add heavy to the rotation.
Perez plus 2 more starters semi short term

Add 1 really good bullpen arm and another decent bullpen arm.

if we re-sign Perez and trade for Lopez, our rotation would be Gray, Lopez, Perez, Dunning and Otto to open the season. if we signed Syndergaard then Otto to AAA.

personally, i think that 13th ranking is only on paper. anyone who has watched this team knows that the starters dread turning their game over to this pen. and it's going to get worse: Burke, Moore, Hearn and Hernandez are worn down and the rest of the relievers are poor. Moore walks at the end of the season and will be looking for a starter gig. we need to add a true closer and at least 2 quality relievers. yes it will cost but the closer by who's available isn't working

We need to have as a goal to be top 3 or 4 in all 3 categories. A big part of that is having patience to build as much of that as possible from our system. Another part is being willing to add missing pieces via free agency and trades. The key is to do those things in the right order and with the right timing.

We should wait to see what we are going to need before deciding to make long term financial commitments because there is a limited supply of money to spend. I think we have already messed up in spending so there is not a lot more room for error.
