Gerrit Cole was drafted #1 overall in 2011 by the Pirates.
At 6'4, 240lbs, throwing mid 90s, this righthander looks the part of an ace, no doubt!

He's got a plus fast ball, a plus slider (possibly devastating). His command is the issue. but his stuff is off the charts. While a guy like Wacha is interesting and all, a guy like Cole could set the world on fire and you can see it just by watching the stuff. I have no clue how well he'll perform right out of the gate. My guess is though that dropping him just before he was called up will be my biggest regret in our MBBRL.
I've read that his fastball can be flat, which is why he seems to have gotten hit more than his stuff would suggest possible.
Might be a roller coaster ride this year, but I'd say he's a #3 as a floor. He does have the upside for a #1 though...which is pretty awesome.

Anyway, if he's free go get him. He shouldn't be. If you own him, good luck! I'd hold him even if he gets smoked early.

The power is legit, but he's got about the ugliest k/bb % going.
If you're desperate (aka playing Buck) then go get him. Otherwise I think he's worth waiting on in redreaft leagues.
I like him, but he's not ready. I think the Mariners are trying to ruin as many prospects as they can.

Admittedly, this isn't an "outstanding" performance from the JUST TURNED 21 year old in AAA relative to his 2011 and 2012.
I think they're waiting for him to get hot. They've definitely got some pressure now from Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Last 4 games .429/.429/.714 (SSS be damned....another week like this and MAYBE, just MAYBE....I have 3 teams depending on it)
