A little hard to say right now. A new GM will make free agent signings long before the draft comes, and the positions to draft will depend somewhat on the strengths and philosophy of whichever coach we hire.

I was just looking this morning through draft prospect rankings, doesn't look like there is a ILB worthy of using #7 on. Supposedly there's no Keuchly-grade guys in this draft. Not that we couldn't use one, of course, but you don't get a #7 pick every day. We have to draft an elite player with it. I'd usually oppose using a #7 on a generic position like safety, but there's one safety who is really high on the lists I was looking at, so that's worth considering. Obviously if an elite offensive tackle is there at #7, you have to at least look at it. And it's never, ever, ever a bad thing grabbing an elite pass rusher.

I think you need more offensive weapons.

Sorry had to :ipw:

Honestly I think you all need to get back to having a couple beasts on the front 7 so Dline or LB for first 2 rounds. Go OLine in 3rd, DB in 4th, RB in 5th

It depends on who is available. I would like another stud middle linebacker though.

" Two success stories in 55 years makes me think it's the exception to the rule"

Because we have drafted stud middle linebackers year after year.

Who was the last mlb we drafted with a top ten pick? I believe it was a guy named Brian Urlacher? Yeah he wasn't very good either.

On another note, I'm not even sure there are any good ones to take that early. I haven't done much research on the nfl draft though, so I can't be sure. I wouldn't want to reach just to fill the position.

BRIAN URLACHER WAS A SAFETY IN COLLEGE WHO WAS DRAFTED TO PLAY OUTSIDE LINEBACKER YOU FUCKING DIPSHIT.

He signed a five-year contract, which was worth nearly eight million dollars with a five and a half million dollar signing bonus, within two months of the draft.[18] Dick Jauron, who was then the Bears' head coach, recognized Urlacher's versatility as a middle and outside linebacker, and appointed him as the team's starting strongside linebacker.[3][19] However, Urlacher struggled to perform consistently in his first professional game, and lost his starting position to Rosevelt Colvin.[20] Jauron left Urlacher on the sidelines during the following week, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers shut out the Bears, 41–0.[21]

He managed to regain a starting spot on the Bears' roster, after Barry Minter, the team's veteran middle linebacker, was forced to miss the Week 3 game on account of an injury.

I don't care, he was also the only linebacker we drafted in the top ten in the 00s.

Urlacher flourished under Long's tenure.[3] Urlacher not only received more playing time, but also played a more versatile role on both offense and defense. Long converted Urlacher into a "Lobo-Back",[6] a cross between a linebacker and free safety, and placed him in a 3-3-5 defense scheme.[7] He spent significant time training with the team's defensive coordinator, Bronco Mendenhall, who helped Urlacher refine his skills as a defensive back.[3] Long also used Urlacher as a return specialist and wide receiver throughout his final two years with the Lobos.[5] Despite Long's extensive changes to the team's roster, formations, and work ethic, the Lobos' performance declined. However, Urlacher became one of the team's most productive players during this time. He finished his career with 442 tackles, three interceptions, 11 sacks and 11 forced fumbles.[4] Outside of defense, he caught six touchdown passes, and returned five kicks for touchdowns.[4]

After the 1999 season, he was one of the finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which is an ward for DEFENSE BACKS

Yes, we all know he was a safety at New Mexico State, but he was drafted as a linebacker.

Of course you don't. Especially when you are wrong about the Bears drafting middle linebackers

Sorry, let me rephrase that. The last linebacker we got in the draft in the top ten ended up turning the bears defense around. Your arguing semantics here. It's not about the method, it's about the result. If we get a stud mlb from this draft, our defense will be on track to improve.

Yeah, BPA is very, very called for here, amongst most positions.

Let's face it. Bears could use help at more or less every position on defense. DE maybe least of all...maybe...but it is never a bad idea to draft an elite pass rusher.

And on offense, we could use first round guys at either outside or inside offensive line.

The only thing is, you usually don't use a #7 on a granola position like interior lineman or safety. But there are always exceptions to that rule.

Let's draft the best of whatever falls to us...regardless of position, and make it work. I'm not going to get super wired into specific positions, as long as they draft the potentially elite guy #7 affords us.

I haven't paid any attention to draft rankings at this point, but I really don't care what position it is.

If the #1 WR is there and he's supposed to be head and shoulders above the rest, Take him. Same for DT(a position that we aren't as weak in).

Sure positions like Guard and Center are probably NOT bpa at pick #7, but round two they could be.

If you are forcing me to make a position call then I would say go O line and then Safety in the second. We really need a RT or a guy to play RT till Bushrod fails and moves over to LT.
