Why is this the case? Wouldn't teams focused around long-term success consistently trade their current 2nd for a first the following year?
I dont think I'm fully right on that but generally teams are more worried about the current year and keeping their jobs. GMs generally don't set up the next GM

As much as I hate to say it, you're right. That would be a way they could realistically mess this up, unless Horton gets canned after one year and they go to a 4-3.

How could I forget Ray Horton is up there now. You're right.

True. It's crazy to me how much impact "win now" fans have on front offices in the NFL.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Bosa. He's going to make some team very happy, most likely the Ravens knowing Cleveland's luck. However, I love having Horton back. He did a fantastic job for us recently.

DeForest Buckner > Joey Bosa

Different players/positions.

You said the Ravens. If both players fall that far, the Ravens do the smart thing and take the better player, who is DeForest Buckner.

Incorrect. Baltimore is notorious for making smart draft moves, which is why they would draft Bosa, who is the best DE in the class.

And that is exactly why the Rams pulled off this trade. They are going to play in front of a new fanbase and they want to win (hopefully) NOW.

I don't think the trade is that bad for the Rams. I remember when the Browns traded three first round picks for the #1 overall pick. That ended up well.

I agree, the Rams have to win now. They finished at 7-9 last year with a terrible offense. IMO, if they can get decent QB play with Gurley running the ball, then I think they have a chance to make the playoffs. A good offense is the best defense. If they can control the T.O.P. then their defense can rest and play even better.

Bosa(270 lbs) isn't big enough to play DE in a NFL 34 he would play power OLB similar to what Suggs(267 lbs) plays he needs about 15 lbs in muscle minimum if he wants to be an effective 4 or 5 tech at the NFL level.

I like the trade for the Rams. THey do have some star players (Gurley, Donald). They need a QB and if they love Wentz/Goff you have to go get them...

I agree with that sentiment, but for some reason I have seen hardly a single mock that sees him get past Baltimore. Perhaps with how they utilized Suggs, and the fact that he's in the twilight of his career, they see his likely successor.

I love the idea of pairing a young stud QB with a young stud RB, but they have whiffed mightily on their choice of WRs. Kenny Britt isn't going to get it done, Tavon Austin is a gadget player and not a true WR, and after that the options look bleak. They really need to spend these next couple of weeks identifying some potential late round steals at the position.

The Rams know what they have now at QB is not going to work. They won't make the playoffs, but they'll be good enough to ensure they don't get a Top 10 pick/shot at a franchise QB in next year's draft either. The only way is to work a trade and move into the spot they did.

Huge gamble IMO...but I am hesitant to criticize a team for going for it with bold moves unless they are obviously ridiculous.

Rams probably look to trade Foles or Keenum now there are a few teams that are a couple of teams that are desperate enough that they might give up a 2nd or 3rd for one of them mitigating some of the Rams loss from this trade.
