I don't know much about Stan Kroenke. He strikes me as the silent but deadly type. My guess is that he stays well clear and lets people do their jobs. If we lose to the Jaguars he might arrive on an unannounced visit to the team's facility on Monday and just have a quiet walkabout. He'll have a cup of coffee then leave without talking to anyone. I'm sure that would send a message.

I don't know fastforward. Kroneke also owns a soccer team and the Denver Nuggets and neither of his other ventures go anywhere after the season is complete. I think we need a new everything. But that is not going to happen!!!

Arsenal football club is a completely different situation. Success requires money and Kroenke doesn't have it. He's done a good job at Arsenal. They've been a decent team without incurring massive losses.

Kroenke has money. He was wealthy before he married into the Walton family.

Kronke, 76th richest dude in the US and No. 84 Forbes 400.

His net worth, $5.3B.

Just to add some perspective, the Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is the 181st richest dude in the US and No. 166 Forbes 400.

Jerry's net worth is $3B

Kroenke is obscenely wealthy, but he's not European football obscenely wealthy. You'd have to look at the financial position of clubs such as Manchester City, Chelsea, and Real Madrid to comprehend what sort of 'biggest dick' contest those people are in. The Saudi Royal Family have burned over $1.2B in 5 years at City. That's a B not an M. There are maybe 40 people on the planet who can play that game.

By that standard:

24 pts ~ Mike Nolan -Atlanta DC (Nolan's has been an HC or DC since 2002)
24 pts ~ Todd Bowles -Arizona DC (Bowles' has been a DC for 4 games)
14 pts ~ Tim Walton -St Louis Rams (Walton's has been a DC for 4 games)

Under this scenario, even if the Rams win something like 38-14, you say all of those dudes up there should get fired on the spot, right?

Bowles & Walton both have minimal tenure, 4 games as a pro. So that's pulling the cord awful early!

Harsh but what then?

Defense by committee, right?

I wouldn't fire him, it's only been 4 games and he wasn't bad in the first two looking at points against compared to last years season average points against.

If things don't get better or if the defense gives it up to these Jags, I would reduce his role demote him to an Assistant DC. I would then announce this change and a year end evaluation of Walton. I would close by stating we will take a defense by committee approach once again and will do so for the remainder of the year.

My standard was on the assumption that the Rams would lose. Id be ok with 38-14 or even 17-14 because there might be some prevent stuff in there and playing to win the game isnt the same as playing to run up the scoreboard.

Jeez Vita. Firing Walton would not lead to an automatic defense by committee. Just pick up the phone and hire Lovie Smith and then fire Walton. Enough said.

1. Why fire a guy 4 games into his career as a DC anyway?
Give the guy the year like they probably agreed to, help him out if he needs help. Reduce his role. Geez, if anything he was your guy 4 games ago, why not let him grow in the process and see if he's a fit after a full season and 16 games. not 4. Wouldn't you want a full year to prove yourself rather than being evaluated 1/4 into your contact terms? Besides his defense had 20 pts against them in game one and 24 pts against them in game two.

2. Lovie Smith would be foolish to hire on and commit to the Rams DC, again!.
He already is the top candidate for an HC & by years end when they start firing HC's, I'm sure his phone will be ringing and he will have his choice of jobs.

The Rams could lay an egg against the Jags and still win

When we passed on Ryan it was said to be, because of a bad scheme fit. It was my believe at the time Ryan wanted complete control of the defense. In other words Fisher keeping his hands off. I dont believe Fisher can give anyone complete control of anything. Having said that ,how much of a hand does Fisher have in the current DCs game plan? And what does that say about how the defense is playing?

The Rams will win this game. They might not cover the spread but who really cares? This team is better than they have been playing...give it a bit more time.

Rob Ryan has a long history in football. He's coached a lot of different positions and systems. He's worked with a lot of good people. He spoke with the Rams about the DC job. He agreed to take over with the 4-3 as the primary system and keep the current Rams personnel. The team would use Ryan's coverage and blitz schemes with Ryan making the defensive calls. He was happy with that. Ryan talked things over with friends and family and reached the conclusion that if his defense failed with the Rams he was unlikely to ever get another DC or HC opportunity in the NFL. His decision was that if he was going to fail he wanted it to be on his own terms with his preferred 3-4 system and him making the defensive decisions. He talked to the Rams and informed them of his decision. There were no bad feelings on either side. At least this is how Ryan portrayed it.
