What are the rules governing Universities contacting currently employed coaches? Are there any? For example, Could SCar have already contacted Tom Herman and set up a deal?

Don't see why not.

Those contracts are to guarantee the coach money, not the other way around.

Kind of like a marriage contract. It's for the woman, not the man.

I'm sure there's a buy-out clause in his Houston contract, but that's it.

Nah, just read a rumor out there that SCar had a deal with Herman. Tanner has come out this evening and said no such thing ever happened, so I got curious. Wondering if he was covering his ass or was it just typical click bait kind of shit.

Agents do all the talking, but a leak is the best way to nullify any such deals.

I always thought that a school who wanted to talk to another school's coach would request permission to do so.
Nowadays however, I think agents for schools and agents for coaches go around that process and talk without anyone even knowing about it.

That is the right thing to do.

CFB is kind of cut-throat any more tho. Especially in the SEC

Yeah, I believe if a school is interested in a currently employed coach, a school representative contacts the coaches agent to see if that coach would be interested. If no, they move on and no one knows it happened. If yes, then they contact that coaches school for permission to talk to him.
