According to Clayton, Smith would have been in the running for a front office job in Buffalo had Bill Polian returned to the team and he would have been Jon Gruden’s choice as G.M. in Oakland had Gruden decided to return to coaching. That should make for a good working relationship with Redskins coach Jay Gruden and Smith’s long working relationship with Wade Phillips in both San Diego and Buffalo might give a hint about the direction a defensive coordinator search would take if Smith accepts a bigger role with the team.

Wade would be a very good upgrade over Haslett, he's an excellent DC.

I dont know guys, considering the state of some of the defenses in the NFL right now, I find it hard to believe an excellent DC would have been unemployed in 2014. I realize there is a good chance we go in this direction.... But if we hire Wade, and continue to hand him the likes of a broke down Clark and the other amassed cast offs we have on defense... it wont matter.
