Obviously he is not as highly regarded in other organizations as ours. But if that's the case why not just hold onto him

So we just traded one of our best prospects for a guy coming off of Tommy John surgery with a terrible major league track record.

Not exactly the return I was hoping we'd receive for Tyler O'Neill.

It seems like every time Marco would turn the corner and start pitching well, another injury would pop up. Or an old injury would reappear and he'd need to start the whole process over again. I like the trade from the Cardinals side, but maybe a new place will do Marco well.

Seems like a Mariner thing to do......O'Neill will probably end up like Choo or Adam Jones

I like O'Neill a lot. Thought we'd be able to get more than this.

To me he projects as a .260/.340 type player with 25 HR potential, 15-20 SB and above average defense.

Optimistic view of the trade:

Marco Gonzales is still a somewhat unknown commodity with a good overall repertoire of pitches with solid command. Projects as a #3 type pitcher. Scouting reports compare him to Jason Vargas. Under team control through 2023.

Pessimistic view of the trade:

Gave up Tyler O'Neill for a guy who in his brief time pitching in the majors has struggled. Had Tommy John surgery and none of his stuff is very overpowering.

Ok, so I'm not the only one that looked at this and doesn't understand the move. I assumed that I would see something in his history that would make sense of it, after initially saying "Who?" after seeing the headline that we dealt a top prospect for him...
