Today, MLB has announced that Jim Joyce is retiring.

Hope he has a nice, quiet life OUTside of baseball.

He made a mistake, most people have forgiven him.

Sorry you're still hung up on it.

Really, you still care about this? The no-hitter is so overrated. If Joyce had ruined something important like hitting for the cycle then I could understand you still being upset.

Damn you guys are sourpusses. I thought real baseball fans enjoyed grudges that last forever. I thought that was part of the game. My bad.

FTR, I admire Joyce more than Galarraga, who got into a dugout scuffle with his own fucking catcher a few days later...

Also, it was a perfect game...not a fucking no-hitter. :D

I don't know who Galarraga is, but when you compare Joyce to guys like Joe West, Bob Davidson, etc. he seems like a good guy.

Agreed. As for the bolded part - there's a reason for that. Jim Joyce had something to do with it.

Pretty much this. Joyce is one of the very best umpires going (went??), so going on a campaign against him just doesn't hold much traction.

If you were going after West, Martinez, Marquez, Gregg, etc, than I think you would get more love. But not for Joyce.

Let me know when one of those guys robs my team of immortality.

That is a little dramatic. I know a perfect game is rare but does anyone really remember the players who had perfect games? Don Larsen is one. I can think of other no hitters but can't remember which were perfect games. I mean the rest of his career is so forgettable it would be kind of like Mark Whiten hitting 4 homeruns in a game.

Actually I looked it up and that was a bad comparison. If the bad call had been made Galarraga could have become the next Dallas Braden

Absolutely true.....Galarraga was never the same...not even close.

Don't know if it was conscious or subconscious, but that was his death knell for a career.

It's great for baseball that West is done.

West is done as well? That is AWESOME!!

I had heard about Joyce and Balkin' Bob, but I hadn't heard about the Cowboy. Definitely good news, if it is true.
