This is an update from Jayson Stark: The Orioles are still shopping for starting pitching and left-handed relief. But teams that have spoken with them now think it's unlikely they'll deal for a starter. They kicked the tires on Lester but never got far. They dabbled in the A.J. Burnett market but backed off. And there are indications they talked to Houston about Dallas Keuchel. But with Ubaldo Jimenez on the road back, they appear more likely to zero in on bullpen upgrades. Two relievers they've been linked to: Neal Cotts and Oliver Perez, two left-handers who aren't just left-on-left specialists.

Saw these on MLB Trade Rumors

5:48pm: The O’s are not in on Bonifacio, tweets Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun, who hears that the versatile fielder could be returning to Kansas City. Needless to say, that would be an interesting turn of events: Bonifacio finished well last year with Kansas City, was tendered a contract, agreed to a salary to avoid arbitration, and was then released before the start of the season.

The Orioles have discussed moving starter Miguel Gonzalez as part of multiple hypothetical trades, tweets Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com. That includes conversations with the Padres and the Phillies, says Cotillo.

Baltimore is considering Neal Cotts of the Rangers, among other lefties that can work against hitters of both sides, Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports (Twitter links). This meshes with an earlier report via ESPN.com’s Jayson Stark. Other possibilities, per Connolly, are Tony Sipp of the Astros, Andrew Miller of the Red Sox, and Oliver Perez of the Diamondbacks. The Orioles do not view the Phillies‘ Antonio Bastardo as an option, says Connolly.

Rising Orioles pitching prospect Hunter Harvey will be shut down for the rest of the season, executive VP Dan Duquette told reports including MLB.com’s Britt Ghiroli (Twitter link). The prognosis looks good, however, as he does not have ligament damage but rather a flexor mass strain, according to Connolly (via Twitter). While the club seemed unlikely to use Harvey as a trade chip anyway, this likely removes him from contention for the time being.

we REALLY need to do something at Catcher and 2nd base. We have little to none with little being very little offense at these positions. Scoop doesn't seem quite ready for pro pitching tho he is close.

I've had it with Ryan his defensive flexibilities do not out weigh his lack of bat.
Catcher has been an obvious offensive disappointment since Matt went down and I don't completely buy Caleb making our starting pitchers better

Ryan is just another version of Robert Andino. He would be fine in a spot start to give someone rest in the infield but there is no way in hell he should be the everyday starter. My only question is, is that who would we trade for to take over that 2nd base spot or do you hand it over to Schoop, leave him there no matter what and hope he starts playing up to his potential?

About catcher, I really don't see any catcher out there on the block that I'd feel comfortable trading for.

Yeah I would agree there is not much out there for trade at 2nd base, but if we are going to have lack of bat average at 2nd base I would rather see Schoop play every day. He at least has a little pop in his bat and with more experience at the pro level the better off we will be in sept and oct.

At catcher if it wouldn't cost too much Suzuki should be an option he his hitting over 300 and with our lineup his rbi and runs should increase.

I just have a gut feeling that Suzuki's numbers might not hold up. Looking at his career stats, it looks like his numbers will probably decrease a little bit. I would also like to see Schoop get more time to see what he can do. Heck, I'd rather they bring Weeks up to see how he could do. But I think that won't happen unless an injury occurs or when Sept rolls around because Buck like's using Ryan as that utility infielder.

Pretty much what I was expecting:

6:58pm: The Orioles did have discussions earlier on Lester, but talks have fizzled and there no longer appears to be a match, reports Andy Martino of the New York Daily News.

For what it’s worth, Duquette did tell reporters that he had at least some interest in adding a frontline starter, which is something of a different tone than the club had set in recent days, as Connolly reports. “We’d be interested in adding pitchers that could help us at the top of our rotation,” said Duquette. “Who wouldn’t be?” But Duquette did not waver from his prior statements that Baltimore is quite hesitant to part with young arms: “I think with our young pitchers we would be conservative, and we would try and give them a prolonged trial in the big leagues before we would trade them.”

Lester to A's with Jonny Gomes for Cespedes. It think this is a very strange trade.

Sox could have gotten some pitching prospects from other teams. If they trade Lackey as well and don't sign Lester their rotation will be awful. I read that Cespedes has a causes that he can become a free agent at the end of next season.

I wounder if Lester has some sort of agreement that he'll sign with the Sox this off season. Otherwise their pitching is going to be really bad.

Of course Lester has a deal with Boston to resign in the offseason. This should be totally against the rules and the A's were willing to give up Cespedes for a rental in Lester? They know Lester will return to Boston. This is bad business if you ask me.

Watching the MLB Network Trade Deadline Special: Says we've been talking to the Mets about Colon and the Astros about Keuchel. Also mentioned we were looking for relief help and were looking at Neal Cotts.

Lackey to St. Louis.

Don't know if Lester will go back to Boston. You know LA Dodgers and Yankees who need starting pitching bad will throw buckets of money at him.

Hunter is a guy that has been okay but would not be upset if he got traded. As for Feldman,

As for Colon, I'm just afraid that his age will catch up with him and we'll be stuck with him.

Not sure if the Yanks will sign him, though it wouldn't surprise me with Jeter's salary off the books after this season and nobody really knows when or if CC will come back, so that could clear up a bit of room as well if he has to retire. I'm thinking the Dodgers have been spending quite a bit lately so wouldn't shock me if they threw tons of money at him to lure him there.
