Pre-analysis: this one should not be close, but I will look before I blindly vote.

OPS+ Bench/Berra
120 - 9/11
130 - 5/8
140 - 4/3
150 - 1/1 (166/194)

Surprised at how this turned out. Berra was more consistent and he had the better single season. Bench is only stronger at the 140+ level. Berra takes this, but still very close.

oWAR7
Bench - 40.1
Berra - 35

Defense
Bench is considered one of the GOATs defensively, and dWAR backs this up. Bench, not close.

Accolades
Bench - 2 MVP, 5 top 10 MVP, ROY, 10 GG, 13 ASG, 2-2 in WS, 6-4 post-season series
Berra - 3 MVP, 7 top 10MVP, 15 ASG, 10-4 WS (no LCS in his day)

Summary
Bench is not near as dominant as I expected. Berra has a slightly better OPS+ breakdown and is more decorated. Bench had a better oWAR and had significantly better D.

In a close one, I gotta go with Fisk. Oh shit, he was ROBBED in the last round. OK, I will go with Bench instead.

Umm... you do realize that Berras 194 OPS+ was only 23 PA... I don't count those seasons...

I love Yogi, but this one is not close... the only thing Yogi was better than bench in was BA and SO... But Bench was so much better at everything else that it doesn't matter...

What I have learned in the last few weeks...

Both Bench and Berra are over-rated. Both Goat-level players for sure. But they are both much more human than their reputations would have us believe.

"The field" is closer to Bench than I thought and Berra is not the hands-down #2, as I thought.

Not really. Bench is better, but it is close enough that the homer doesn't bother me. In the previous rounds I have voted Bench over Munson and Dickey because it wasn't close. I also voted for Risk over Berra.

I have no prob with occasional homer-picks.

While I dont agree that Berra is better than Bench, I think that it is close enough that a homer-sway is not absurd. Especially if you acknowledge that it is there.

You're right, I stand corrected. I might even make my own Homer pick when Bench faces Pudge lol

I have said all along that we all know who is going to win these and that was never the point of this. I will almost always go with the Yankees player if it is close IMHO, but I believe I have stated every time I did that.

IF Pudge gets past Carter, then we will see what happens in the Bench/Pudge matchup.

I will let you know if it is close enough to allow homer-picks ;)

I don't get why you guys think this is close though. Bench has better defense, power, longevity, BB, and played in an era with lower BA and OBP.
