I never saw Robinson play, but he has the reputation as the greatest defensive 3B of all time. Gardner did not have nearly a good enough bat to overcome that.

Larry Gardner had a career .355 OBP... That is just not good enough to beat THE BEST defensive 3B of all time...

Gardner wasn't much better offensively at all, and that's before you consider the fact that Brooks had 4090 more plate appearances. Then there's different eras and defense.
