When I was going through boot camp I was damn near the perfect recruit (I was a third generation Marine so I knew exactly what to expect). But Sgt. Muldoon still had a term of endearment for me that I can hear to this day: Okie Maggot. For 13 weeks I was mentally screaming "fuck you" every time I heard him say that, but later when I was in action I mentally thanked that mean SOB a hundred times for getting me ready to handle anything.
