To me Notre Dame's class looks over rated and gets a bump for sheer numbers (27). That rarely works out as this is a quality play not a quantity play.

They might be getting a little bump but regardless it's still a top 15 class.

Combined with last year's class, where is the "cut line" for the schools that have a realistic shot at the CFP two years from now? Top 10 recruiting class? Top 15 recruiting class? Top 20 recruiting class? Inquiring minds want to know.

For the most part it's always the same people. Every now and then, some stranger will crash the
party for one year, but just look to the Top 15 P5 teams of all-time (winning pct) and there is your
Champion. The AP has crowned 81 NC's since 1936 and the Top 15 have won 63 of them. That's
over 75%.

Those teams always recruit good. Some years are better than others but they really never have a bad year.
Their names do all the work.

Let me show you two lists and then compare.

Top 15 by winning pct of all-time

1-Alabama
2-Notre Dame
3-Mich
4-Ohio St
5-Oklahoma
6-USC
7-Texas
8-Nebraska
9-Penn St
10-FSU
11-Tenn
12-Georgia
13-LSU
14-Miami
15-Florida

63 of 81 NC's since 1936

Here's rivals Top 15 thru today in recruiting this season

1-Georgia
2-Ohio St
3-USC
4-Texas
5-Penn St
6-Miami
7-Alabama
8-Clemson
9-FSU
10-Notre Dame
11-Auburn
12-Oklahoma
13-LSU
14-Washington
15-Oregon

11 names are the same and 3 of the 4 other names are all close to the Top 15
All-Time. Auburn is 16th, Washington is 17th and Clemson is 19th. Oregon is the
odd ball at 31st.

We play a football season every year to see which one of the Top 15 can survive the season.
It's like a script.

Clemson's class is weird six 5 stars but then it gets thin quick. They only signed 18 so that indicates a they had limited spots but to sign pretty much the same number of 4 stars as 3 stars is surprising.

1. Quality > Quantity Maybe weird to other schools but this by far the best recruiting class Clemson is bringing in.

2. Dabo doesn't believe in over recruiting.
Swinney explains small recruiting class: Tigers don't run players off
Clemson only signed 14 last year because "they only had 14 spots"

3. Clemson was young last year, They return 17 of their top 20 tacklers and only lost a couple of WRs and OLs.

I disagree with that list. My 4 favorite are Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, and USC.

Yeah, but they don't let you write for SB Nation. Which may be a good thing for you! I'm not a fan of SB Nation. JMO

How was UTEP's class? I'm not trolling, I honestly want to know if the new coach made some inroads in the state.

Fuck no. They are owned by Vox media. Which explains all the shitty SJW articles they try to push. I never click their shit.

I didn't read the link, but when it is possible I like the quality over quantity remark. There is
no sense in recruiting folks that are borderline just to fill out 25 spots. Now you must fill your needs
and that may force you to grab a 3-star here or there. There is nothing wrong with that.

Recruiting is meant to fill your needs and prepare your team for the future. It's not meant to grab
an extra 50 points in Rivals rankings, by grabbing some kid that will struggle to make the depth chart
just for "ranking" purposes.

Again, I didn't read the link, but I don't buy the "we don't run players off" comment at face value.
There are all sorts of ways to run players off. Now maybe they don't take a player and tell them...
"we are not going to renew your scholarship." There are probably some that do that, but that kinda stuff
can get you in trouble with HS coaches, thus I would think coaches want to stay away from that stuff.

However, you can take a player and tell them they lack work ethic or they're not working hard enough
to improve themselves or they may not have what it takes for this level and then tell them, Without
immediate improvement, I can't see you making the depth chart.

For a player, it's not just about sitting on the bench for 14 games...it's also about being knocked
around on a practice field for 100 other days. That's not any fun for a player who knows they
could play somewhere else. The player, will admit to themselves they'd be better off going somewhere
else. If you want to get rid of somebody, you'll get rid of them.

So, data indicates top 15 is the cut line then. The odds of anyone outside of that making it would take some things falling just right and some castastrophes by the others.

Hell, from the lists, Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, Texas, Nebraska, Penn State, Tennessee, LSU, Miami, Florida and Auburn have yet to make the CFP in the first four years.

Those rankings aren’t quite accurate. Oklahoma is tied with Clemson for 9 I think.

Dan Mullen’s transition class has more blue-chips than any one of McElwain’s 3 classes

This is also with fewer players than McElwain ever signed in a single class.

2018: Mullen signed 12 blue chips out of 19 signees

2017: Mac had 11 bluechips out of 23 signees

2016: Mac signed 9 bluechips out of 25 signees

2015: Mac signed 5 bluechips out of 21 signees. 1 of them never actually enrolled.

Additionally, Mullen signed 4 top 100 players compared to Mac’s 7 total in a 3 year span.

---

Jimbo Fisher’s transition class at Texas A&M is rated higher than Kevin Sumlin’s last full class.

Kevin Sumlin’s 2017 class had a composite score of 248.48 and Jimbo Fishers transition class has eclipsed that at 251.20.

No they haven't but 10 of the 16 spots have been filled by 5 other Top 15 teams.
Five of the remaining 6 spots were filled by teams in the Top 20 All-Time.

Only Oregon has crashed the party.
