i meant without carroll's extremely conservative offense. he might even bring bits of the shanahan offense with him.
Norton had nothing to do with Clowney dropping into coverage, thats a Offense knowing how to shift to force their biggest problem into coverage. Thats called Offensive coaching to put the defense into miss matches or disadvantages by play scheme. It's hard to scheme around it when it was schemed in the first place to FORCE the DE to cover in "Petes" Defense.
We saw Avril and Even Bennett dropping into coverage some times also but you all forget that right? It's just how you have to play some looks and trust me GB's HC and OC knew what to call to get Clowney off the line.
Highly highly highly unlikely
This coming year, yes. Next year? If this team doesnt at least get to the NFCCG then it should be a serious consideration. That would be 6 years without getting past the divisional round.
With any luck, pete will retire as coach after 2020 and stay on as team president and bring a young coach like saleh.
Well who knows how long Pete is going to stay but Robert Saleh isn't going to be bringing an aggressive offense with him.

Just send him, you don't need to cover anyone, just go after the QB... His responsibly is trying to beat the blocker in front of him... Especially with the season on the line, SEND Clowney, he might get to him... It's just hair pulling how frustrating it's been ..
You can not just SEND him if the offense sets up in a way that forces him to cover!
Norton isn't good but this is Pete's defense.
If we want to talk firing coordinators we should start with Brian Schneider, special teams have been awful since 2015.
Brian Schottenheimer is the best coordinator on the staff by a country mile.
Shaquill Griffin added to the NFC pro bowl roster, deservedly so in my opinion. Wagner, Clowney, Wright, Reed, Diggs, Kendricks, Griffin. That's quite a lot of proven talent on a defense that ranked as low as it did. Or is it? I'm just not sure anymore if I haven't become a bit "nose blind" to how good our talent truly is on that side of the ball. When we made the Clowney trade, I truly expected our front 7 to be among the best in the league. But then Reed got suspended (maybe it was announced before the Clowney deal, can't recall), Ansah did nothing, and I wouldn't say it was Bobby Wagner's best season (though I think the 2nd half was pretty good). We lacked pass rush and gave up chunk yardage on the ground way too often. It just never really seemed like it came together on defense the way it should have, given the level of talent, outside of about 3 or 4 games (first Arizona, Philly x2, first SF).
Is that Norton's fault? If we agree the talent is there, then I think he has to shoulder much of the blame. But I don't think we can conclusively say Norton did a bad job if we are also saying we lack defensive talent. Is our talent level on defense tied to who is coaching it? I think in order for the D to improve in 2020, we'll need to see growth from guys like Rasheem Green, Blair, LJ Collier, etc., and I'm not sure that has all that much to do with who our DC is.
it depends on the line-up and the defensive call. 4-3 sending 4 rushing and dropping 7 ( 3 lbrs in the flat ) CB locked up Man on man on WR ( 2 ) or zone quarters. 2 TE set Forces Safety and one LBr to cover then depending on roll of RB you might force the DE hand to cover and switch TE/RB with LBer depending on the side. They flipped this to Clowneys side forcing him to cover the TE. It happens it's called a chess match for a reason. Now the Defense can call a blitz on the weak side of this play and this creates a miss match and quick pressure BUT like you stated you really do not want to blitz Rogers.
