Right, if Hunter Johnson works out as well as the "experts" think he will, then the Tigers could potentially be in the playoffs again. Williams is a big loss by Clemson but Clemson has had the best WR recruiting for a while. The next star will just have to step up like Williams did after Sammy Watkins and Watkins did after Jacoby Ford/Deandre Hopkins.

But to repeat, which is unlikely, Clemson needs:

1.) Hunter Johnson (or the two 4 star QBs) to step up and lead the team.
2.) Venables not to bail ship
3.) Someone to replace Boulware
4.) A new center
5.) FSU not to be as good as I suspect they will be

1) Yea, my guess is that we're looking at Zerrick Cooper, Kelly Bryant, or Tucker Israel @ QB.
2) I think Venables stays for another year. I'd like to see him stay longer, but we'll see.
3) We definitely need someone to fill his leadership role. I think talent wise, we're covered.
4) Falcinelli or Morris?
5) FSU ain't the only ones to worry about ... VT on the road, L'Ville on the road, Auburn, and god knows if the NCSt. game is on a Thursday night we're in trouble.

Lol. No. Your boy couldn't have carried Coker's jock and that's not saying much. Face it. Michigan was a step below Bama and Clemson. Clemson proved it when they mudholed Ohio state.
Our QB was also playing injured at the end of the year. It's hard to say how your team performs when you play in a game like a national title game playoff.

It wasn't like Speight looked all that great when he was healthy.

Speight's average completion percentage before the Iowa game was 64.5% with 15 TD's and 3 INT's. He had a bad game against Iowa and got injured, and in the remaining two games had a 59.6% completion percentage with 3 TD's and 3 INT's. He had as many interceptions in the last two games as he had in the first 9 (and we played PSU and Wisconsin during that stretch). So that's a pretty significant drop in performance. Speight's strength isn't necessarily that he takes care of the ball and completes passes under 25 yards consistently.

Your last two games were your toughest two games. Penn State at the beginning of the year was completely different than the one at the end of the year.

Really, that's the argument we're making? It was a "different" Penn State team with all the same players? There were two games in between Penn State losing to us and beating OSU. The last two games were probably the toughest, but certainly not enough to swing his stats that low.

Things that need to fall into place for ND to win the NC next year:

The top 50 teams in the country can't exist, and manage to beat Miami of Ohio, Boston College and Wake Forest. If we go 3-0 against those three teams, and the top 50 teams don't exist, we're a lock to be the #1 seed.

But again, he wasn't that good when he was healthy.

FWIW they were actually without 4 starters on their defensive front 7 because of injuries. And one of their starting WR's as well. Plus 4/5 of the O-line was different for the game against Michigan than it was for their last game of the regular season. Don't get me wrong Michigan destroyed PSU, but to say they were the same team would be incorrect. Plus when you have a younger team, like PSU was, there is more room for improvement over the course of the season than there is for a team that's loaded with 4th and 5th year players like Michigan was.

I'll take a QB with a 65% completion percentage and 5:1 TD to INT ratio any day.

His numbers against "good opponents" before getting hurt (Penn State and Wisconsin)

62% completion percentage
408 yards passing
2 touchdowns 1 interception

His other opponents before getting hurt include Illinois, Rutgers, Hawaii, Central Florida, etc. He's not a good quarterback. By any means

1) A medium sized meteor
2) it splinters upon entry
3) those splinters obliterate Alabama, LSU, Miss St, and Ole Miss
4) a QB magically appears for the Aggies
5) might win the west
