Vs. Brooklyn (2/19)

Sorry for screaming, but WHY ARE WE SHOOTING A 2 POINT SHOT WHEN DOWN BY SIX POINTS WITH 14 SECONDS LEFT?!!!

WHY DO WE WAIT 16 SECONDS TO FOUL WHEN DOWN BY 4 WITH 30 SECONDS IF WE ARE NOT GOING TO TRY AND STEAL THE BALL AND THEN FOUL, RESETTING THE SHOT CLOCK?!!!

Waive Corbin. I give up.

I thought you can't normally post during games because you're watching them with your parents, and don't come home until after the game's over?

The foul calls have been absurd both ways - called and not called.

True. I'll stop now. I'm at the game but just got tired of Corbin. He does nothing.

Glad you're at the game.

If I would have known that, I would have made a special game thread and posted! You know I've been wanting a live game thread for a long time. Probably since last spring, which was the last time you were in one.

Also thanks for clarifying about Corbin and why he needs to be waived.

Any one Stockton or Malone got - to see Malone get that many assists or Stockton get that many rebounds...

OT: What's your favorite triple double memory?

My most memorable attempt was when Ricky Davis, I think, tried to get a triple double when shooting at the Jazz hoop in the last seconds trying to get his 10th rebound. Didn't work and in the blowout win, it looked like he was mocking the Jazz. Sloan was mad and DeShawn Stephenson tackled him.

I think that was Ricky Davis.

I remember reading the recap that night.

I like triple doubles with steals or blocks.

Stockton's triple double came in a blowout playoffs loss. You are sick if that's your favorite.

Lurch (Eaton) and Kirilenko are the only ones to have blocks triple double.

Malone had 3 triple doubles. I bet though that he had at least 43 games with 10+ assists. Nah, let's make it 71. As I've said before, big man assists are the best (because they lead to better shots, on average, than a guard assist, which can sometimes lead to a long midrange jumper -- the worst shot on the court).

Ok, so how many games of 10+ assists did Malone have?

7.

Hmm, let's see 8+ assists.

68. See, close to my 71 estimate.

Malone was a great passer. Malone-to-Stockton shovel pass for the layup!

Ok, let's see how many Jazz have had 10+ steals.

* No one. :(

* 8+ steals:

11 times.

Since 1985-86, Kendall Gill, Mookie Blaylock, Clyde Drexler, Kevin Johnson, and Alvin Robertson are the only players to have a steals triple double.

Drexler did it twice. Once, he was an assist away from a quadruple double.

The other time, he was a rebound away from a quadruple double. (But he also had 7 turnovers, and Milwaukee had a 6 point win).

Anyways, thanks for sharing.

I think it's rarer for a guard to get that many rebounds, than a big man assists.

I wonder which guards have had 10+ blocks?

Hmm, no one. Kirilenko and Josh Smith are the smallest, at 6'9.

What about big men with 10+ steals?

Drexler is the biggest, at 6'7. Not a surprise for him either.

Ok, enough of this.

Did you actually remember a few of these, or did you just answer that without knowing if it had been done before?

That's what I said. Ricky Davis*. ;)

For the record, I said J.R. Smith. My apologies to Mr. Smith.

Call me sick, Dr. Nuraman. I like Stockton and I like triple doubles. Getting fewer rebounds wouldn't have helped that game (those were missed shots so it's not like going for the rebound hurt his defense - unless he was daring shots to be taken in order to get rebounds and they were making them).

Thanks.

Sometimes it's hard to remember whether a statistical performance had really been done though.

So that's why I asked.

But is it your favorite Jazz triple double of all time? Or is your favorite one from a different game, possibly a win?

Here's the list since 1985-1986 (* means playoffs):

Player Game Finder | Basketball-Reference.com

What about 5x5 games? (Kirilenko had a few of those, here's all of them in NBA history):

I would go with Kirilenko's one against the Lakers as the best Jazz one.

Hakeem's are the best, though.
