The tanking was pretty bad in Colorado and Arizona, so these results kinda make me happy.

I'm still a little shocked that the Oilers didn't find a way to win this draft lottery.

Was it though? Neither team began the season thinking it would be this bad - AZ probably at least hoped they would get progress from their kids and maybe start to take the next step, while Colorado has clumsily believed in their way of doing things since that PDO-boosted playoff run a few years ago.

I don't think any teams thought they'd be shit this year and once some teams were shit (and once the Avs were truly spectacularly shit) it was more of an embarrassment than anything.

Philly didn't miss the playoffs by all that much and snagged the 2nd overall pick - Not too shabby.

I think their coach was just a complete moron. I didn't feel like some of their core guys just gave up.

I got that feeling in Colorado and Arizona. Maybe tanking is the wrong word, perhaps apathy is a better term. That should never be rewarded.

Well, I'm going to respectively disagree with that view, Kenny, although I do agree that the core players didn't give up. The main problem is that the core guys just aren't very good anymore and the young guys aren't quite ready to step up to be front line players. There are reasons for optimism though, but it's going to be a rough couple of years before the Canucks start contending in the Pacific Division.

BREAKING: The Vancouver Canucks, Colorado Avalanche and Buffalo Sabres are all using their coach's challenge on this draft lottery result.
Gotta do something.

We already tried to use our Lottery in the Bank two years ago, but Edmonton apparently used theirs too.
