The race for the final 2 spots in the West could be determined in the last week of the season. The Mavs, Suns and Grizzlies all play each other multiple times.

Suns last three games: @Mavs, vs. Grizz, @Kings

Grizzlies last three games: @Lakers, @Suns, vs. Mavs

Mavs last three games: vs. Spurs, vs. Suns, @Grizz

Should be pretty interesting.

There is great races all around the league that should be decided in the final 2 weeks of the year.

Other races to pay attention to:

In the east of course we have the race for 1st as both Indiana and Miami both have 15 losses.

We also have the race for HCA in the first round between Toronto, Chicago, and Washington. Washington trails both Chicago and Toronto by 3 games

In the west in addition to the race for 7th and 8th, we have these races:

The race for 1st in the west between OKC and SAS

The huge race for positions 3-5 as Portland and Houston currently are in front of the Clippers by .5 game for HCA in round 1

And of course the race for 8th which is currently separated by 1 game as 3 teams are fighting for 2 spots

I think HOU and LAC are more likely to challenge OKC for the #1 West seed than SAS but minor detail.

I respectfully disagree. Those teams are 4 & 5 losses behind OKC. Hard to imagine either team making that up in the final 20 games. In addition to that the Spurs are finally getting healthy

San Antonio schedule is pretty easy also. I counted about 15 very winnable games left on their schedule

Plenty still to be determined with about 1/4 of the season left. I think Miami is in the driver's seat for the best overall record. Their scheduled doesn't look so bad. No major road trips left.

Atlanta could still get caught for that 8th spot. They haven't exactly been playing good basketball of late.

I agree but problem is the teams behind team are 4 games out at least and aren't playing good basketball. Cleveland is 5-5 in their last 10 while Detroit is 2-8

Cleveland is 5 back in the loss column. It's a lot to make up, but if Atlanta keeps going how they are, it's doable. Atlanta has played 3 less games than Cleveland. That's a 1.5 game pickup on Atlanta if they were to lose them all.

And don't forget The Great Tank Race of 2014. By the last week, the bottom 5 teams might trot out rosters with And 1 players!
