The first of the pre-season football mags have hit the stands!

Phil Steel does seem to brag a lot about being the most accurate pre-season magazine - even when he isn't. I like a lot of the extra details he puts in, but the magazine has gotten too bloated over the years. He should cut out a lot of that overkill & add in his evaluations of the FCS schools in its place.

thats a different magazine i think therefore he wants you to buy it too.

I buy one magazine each year. I've been doing this since the 1950's. Howard "Hopalong" Cassidy, who won the Heisman Trophy was on the first cover I ever bought.

Phil Steele king of ‘every prediction I make is write as long as I go back and change it’. Very big fan of himself as half the magazine talks about how great he is.

Nailed it. His picks are pretty much useless.

But when it comes down to the nuts and bolts Phil is still the tops IMO.

He no longer publishes a magazine concentrating on FCS teams. He did that for a couple of years, but it didn't work out that well for him. I think he has an online supplement that you can download from his website.

The only publication that still does a decent job with FCS coverage is Street & Smiths College Football Yearbook.

I used to read all of these when I worked in a store that sold them.

Then I'd put them back on the rack.
