We should stop calling it "soccer" and start calling it "diving." Only problem is that we will need to call diving something else.

You have embellishment in every sport. It's just much much easier to pick up on it in soccer.

The real argument is to stop calling it soccer and start calling it football.

American football should be called throwball or some shit.

It's much worse in diving. You rely on it more than skill sometimes to win games. That's how Ghana beat USA last time and they will do it again.

We could just call it "American football" like the rest of the world does I guess...

And with the limited scoring in soccer, the awarding of a penalty on a dive is much more penal. If you dive in basketball, yeah, you may get two points. But when you score 100, it's much easier to overcome. The only other sport I think it can have nearly as much an effect on is hockey. There is definitely diving in hockey, too, but it seems to have a greater stigma there than it does in soccer.

Interesting, never knew that.

My favorite is one of the theories that explains why all of these sports call the ball a "football" (soccer, american football, rugby, aussie rules, etc.). I think we are all aware that all of these sports come from a common ancestor, then split off into their own rules over time. The theory goes that the aristocratic gentlemen only played sport on horseback, and only the common folk played sports on foot. Hence, football was a ball game that was played on foot, and had nothing to do with the kicking of the ball.

This is by no means a theory that all believe in, but it seems to make some sense, at least.
