Yeah, it may be a reach, and it's a risky pick. But there's potentially big upside -> big, physical receiver who will def be a red zone threat.

I like him a lot as a physical specimen. The Panthers definitely need a receiver. And he's a proven winner! Raw talent is still talent.

I was hoping we'd get him. A BIG target for Cam. He may be a little unpolished but let Ricky Prohel coach him. IMHO in was Prohel who turned Steve Smith from someone who relied only on his speed into a very polished route runner and that is when Smitty's career took off. Gettleman would not have taken him unless he was convinced Benjamin was the best player available for Carolina.

Now we've got the weapon, let's get some protection.

Bold: he's got to work on that, and getting separation. Speed is not that great.

A lot of online noise about taking the OT from Nevada.

My opinion means very little but huge mistake by the Panthers...

I really don't see Benjamin as a reach. Everything I saw on him had him projected as a late 1st/very early 2nd round pick. While this draft is deep, once you got past the elite players everyone is a bit of a project. Gettleman had said there were 10 WR's & OT's worthy of a 1st round pick. The OT's were gone, the top CB's and pass rushers were gone. That may have left Benjamin as the BPA plus he has the size to block in our running game. I've seen some say we should have gotten Lee out of USC but lots of teams passed on him as well. Maybe teams are seeing something that makes them nervous or they figured he would still be available in the 2nd. Besides when was the last time USC produced a top level WR?
Any way you look at it, it's all on paper right now. Let's see how he plays.

OK, I'll be the one to say this.

The Panthers finally got a WR, Cam Newton can see eye to eye with.

He was the best choice at #28. The Panthers still have #60 to get an OT, #92 to get a CB, and #128 for another WR.

Well, we took Kony Ealy out of mizzou, DE. Strange pick, but may be good value. I think this was because of the money constraints we're going to face with CJ's big conract, Kraken's situation.

Kony Ealy's player profile. Now we know what a Blue Goose look like.
Kony Ealy Draft Profile ? NFL.com

He might take a year or 2 to fully develop, but so did Hardy. Should give us amazing depth and make Monster's Inc. even more scary. Could be an eventual replacement for Charles Johnson or Greg Hardy depending on how things work out. Could be a real steal for us, while we don't really need another DE, we didn't really need Luke when we had Beason. We didn't really need to DT's in the first 2 rounds last year either.

Looks to me like Gettleman is sticking with taking the BPA no matter what.

Trai Turner, out 3rd round pick.
Trai Turner Draft Profile ? NFL.com

Well, we all wanted an OL but we got a G/C and not a T. Still, this kid looks like a STUD for the interior. Should really help open up running lanes. He's another guy that will need some work but I like this pick.

I keep remembering what Gettleman said after Gross retired. "Sometimes the answer is already on your roster." Maybe he knows something about the OL we have that we don't. I really would have expected a T no later than the 3rd round but Gettleman is known for being a great talent evaluator so I'm hoping he knows what he's doing.

I remember last year not understanding why in the hell we did not take a corner as it was a major need. With the second ranked defense it turned out that Gettleman knew more than I did about draft needs, football and such. Go figure....
