It is part of Giddey’s story, like it or not.
Pure ignorance for it to be brought up during a game. It has no bearing on anything, it’s over. The guy made himself look bad if he did anything more than mention it in passing. 16, 13 and 12 on 64% shooting, that’s the story from last night.

He was literally on a team with Kevin Durant man.

I didn't say Jamal Murray was better. I said he's every bit as valuable to Denver as Kyrie is...well anywhere.

Do we need to refer to his playoff stats?

OK I will

26 ppg 7 dimes on 40 percent from 3.

That's elite.

I don’t like Kyrie. He is very overrated as talented as he is.

I agree that their impact on winning is about the same. Kyrie just does it in flashy ways that create the impression in the minds of some that he is a superstar level player.

He isn’t.

My only pushback is you using team accomplishments to make your case.

That is slightly cringy when used to compare best players of ignoring context. It is invalid when using support players.

Which is what both guys are currently.

He is playing well.

You want it to be over, but regardless, he made a mistake.

He dodged a bullet that nothing more came of it, but it is absolutely not out of bounds for people to talk about it.

So get used to it.

Because the better Giddey plays and more relevant he becomes, the more it is going to get brought up.

It only goes away completely if Giddey isn’t a relevant player in the league.

Does not affect me in the least, doesn’t matter to me really. I don’t think it will be brought up often, just no reason to. The girl retained a lawyer, a big one, for this very reason. It’s not going to affect him in any way going forward.

The entire crux of this conversation is him trying to say Doncic has Kyrie and Jokic doesn't have anyone similar. Which is what led us here.

That's a laughably bad take in an effort to score points in an MVP debate.

Murray has clearly had as much impact on success as Kyrie in the last five years.

It won’t affect him if he is nobody.

If he actually becomes a star in the league, you best believe people will use it to get in his head. Fans especially.

The better he is the longer the story stays relevant.

Well I guess it’s pretty fn relevant right now then lol. It will die if he keeps playing like he is. No reason for it not to.

Cmon man.

Availability is the best ability.

Can’t win MVP missing 20+ games with or without the rule.

No asterisk needed.
I spoke no lies. Embiid > Joker

The lie you spoke is that Joker stole 2 of Embiid’s MVPs.
That’s not a lie. Go back and look at commentary from voters in 2021. Embiid had the better season and didn’t play enough games. That’s the way this year was going as well.

That isn’t an asterisk.

It is an unfortunate reality of Joel Embiid’s career.

You want to know the list of fewest games played by MVP winners in league history?

Karl Malone won with 49 games played in 1999. But that was the strike shortened season where they only played like 50 games.

LeBron and Giannis won with 62 and 63 games respectively during lockout shortened 2012 and COVID shortened 2020.

You have 2 old timers Bill Walton in 1978 (58 games) and Bob Cousy in 1957 (64 games).

Since 1978, there has only been 1 MVP to play less than 71 regular season games during a full 82 game season.

Care to guess who that was?

Joel Embiid played 66 games in 2023.

If you really want to start putting asterisks in MVP awards, than IMO it is Embiid who deserves the asterisk. Not Jokic.

Availability is the most important ability.

You have every right to your opinion. If you want to see the NBA MVP as an attendance award that’s your right. But you’re agreeing with me more than you realize. 2 of Jokic’s MVPs are a direct result of the better player not playing enough games in the eyes of the voters.

That happens almost every season my dude.

MVP ladder changes when midseason contenders get injured.

It doesn’t happen that often at all. There are never any more than 2-3 players each season who are legit candidates for MVP based on play on the court. It’s uncommon for that player to not win because of injuries and games missed.
