The Castellanos contract is definitely a different one can't see I've ever seen one structured quite like that before. About the best the Reds can do is get one really good year out of him before he opts out to get a longer/bigger contract (or so he thinks).
But if injury or off year he sticks it out. A career year and he is out of there.
4 year contract is career protection and Ozuna only one year...wow quite a difference

Wondering if some of the slowness of another RHB/not spending is waiting to land a cornerstone piece as was attempted with Rendon or Arenado.

We need more than a 2 year piece but need to get it right

Castellanos has a much better bat and he is a year and a half younger. Castellanos was expected to get 4 years from the start of free agency. It just took awhile.

Over a year ago I wrote this so I guess I should have known how this offseason would go.

I think they are counting on the new ballpark to bring fans back in 2020. Then they will have to provide a winner/contender on the field for the fans to return again in 2021.

JD professed being upset about not getting Rendon but some may consider that double speak.

But perhaps actions speak louder than words and a cumulative pitching haul does not suffice.
Even me thinks a cornerstone position piece is needed

Castellanos stats were trending upwards and Ozuna's were trending downwards.

Considering the way this off season has went I'd bet the one FA they will really regret not going after harder is going to be Yazmani Grandal...

I’m curious to hear some other point of views on Scott Heineman.
He has dominated at A, AA, and AAA last year. I don’t see any reason he couldn’t hit
.285/.360/.445 putting up an .805 OPS
Steal 15 bases, 15 HRs, 30 doubles and score 80-90 runs. I think he could put up 3 WAR.
Maybe be a player a little better than Adam Eaton but not quite as good as Whit Merrifield.
What do y’all think?
He hit .347 .415 .591 1.006 in 200 AB in AAA last year
He may be able to hit .300/.370/.550 .920 with 20 homers but I’ll stick the before prediction lol

I wonder if Scott Heineman will end getting a lot of playing time in Center Field with Santana being more of a utility player who plays all around the field and gets his 500 ABs

I'm not a big fan, i could see him as serviceable bench player but that's about it

Castellanos got what i expected but it surprised he went NL
Defensively, would you rather have Castellanos or Choo in the OF?

Good read. We have done some good things in the most important area and that is pitching. I know JTA posted something about them all being at the worst a #3 guy in the rotation. As in anything they will need to perform to their abilities but they were good moves regardless.

Domingo Santana would be a solid get, just transition him to DH soon, don't know that I'd even waste a 1B mitt on him though and he's not even as bad in the OF as Castellanos
