Texas easily beat Baylor in Waco today, for third win in a row over ranked teams. Little Isaiah Taylor is the man, driving against zone, then man-to-man, for 27 points.

Horns now 16-4. 5-2 in the Big12. Have won five in a row.

Rick Barnes for Big12 COY at this point?

yeah, guess will see if these young guys can handle being ranked. Unfortunately for them, have to play Kansas next game. But get a week off until then.

... and this is a major surprise. We Longhorns weren't expecting the team to play this well. The exodus of players from the program after last season has proven to be good news. This is also the 10th youngest team in College Basketball.

I firmly believe Patterson sat Barnes and Augie down and said, "Win, or your gone in mid season". This is Barnes's best coaching job since his 1st year at UT, and he's winning with a very young team. Maybe he's realized he doesn't need the one and doners to win.

If 16-4, with wins @UNC, @Baylor, Iowa State, and Kansas State doesn't get you ranked then they should just throw out the polls. Especially when all 4 losses are excuseable.

let's not pretend that Baylor is any good, but i agree with the rest of your points. I even left the @ un-bolded because any road win is good, even if it's against baylor.

I have been impressed with Texas, though, never would have seen this coming.

oh well, that's okay if it keeps them working on getting better and showing up in the games. Need to keep their heads down, as the conference games are a bitch, would be easy to get on a losing streak.

Unfortunately, that UNC win doesn't look that good anymore. Speaking of UNC, does any other coach out there own UNC the way Barnes does?

Rick Barnes for Big12 COY at this point?

At this point I'd say it's Lon Kruger. Oklahoma starts 1 Senior, 3 Sophomores, and a Freshman. Already have road win at Texas and at Baylor. Have beaten Isu and Osu too. Played Kansas and Michigan St. as close as anyone.

Lon Kruger and Rick Barnes are neck and neck. For the record, Texas starts 1 Junior, 3 Sophomores, and a Freshman. Texas was also picked to finish near the very bottom of the Big 12 this year. I think the winner will be whoever finishes strongest going down the stretch. Both are probably national coach of the year finalist too.

My bias leads me towards Barnes naturally. We have a younger team including a younger bench. We were picked to be awful this year. However, Oklahoma has surprised as well and did beat Barnes 1-0 so far. Will be close.

i've got barnes, and here is why.

1) Up until this season I didn't think he could coach a HS boys basketball team, let alone a college team.
2) everyone knows what Lon Kruger can do. That guy has won at every stop.

although i hadn't ever heard of a single player on oklahoma heading into the season....so that's pretty good for Lon

I am in no doubt very impressed with both Texas and Oklahoma this year. They beat OSU with ease, sadly I predicted this to my brother simply because OSU no longer has a presence down low after losing cubbins. I'm starting to think maybe the BIG 12 isnt as good at the top as we think. I think that KU is quickly becoming very good but I feel there is a pretty good gap after them at this point. Either way, its pretty cool seeing OU 16-4 possibly having a great record in the end.

Holy shit dude, the Big 12 has had the best year I can ever remember it having OOC. Don't let the league beating each other up ruin your opinion of the league. It did work this year OOC. That shit is gonna pay off come tournament time.
