Orioles selecting Nolan Reimold's contract on Tuesday

The Orioles will select outfielder Nolan Reimold's contract from Triple-A Norfolk prior to Tuesday night's game against the Red Sox, according to industry sources.

The club will need to create room on the 25- and 40-man rosters for Reimold, who signed a minor league deal on Feb. 3 following a lengthy negotiation.

The Orioles are playing a man short while left-hander Brian Matusz serves the five remaining games on his suspension for having a foreign substance on his right arm. They had a three-man bench on Sunday after activating starter Bud Norris from the disabled list and optioning infielder Rey Navarro to Norfolk.

Reimold is batting .286/.351/.389 with 12 doubles, two home runs, 13 RBIs, 16 walks and five stolen bases in six attempts over 46 games.

In 14 games since May 22, Reimold has batted .422 (19-for-45) with a .469 on-base percentage. He has six multi-hit games and he leads the International League in average and OBP over that stretch.

The Orioles also have considered bringing up outfielder/first baseman Chris Parmelee, but they apparently prefer a right-handed bat. Reimold could be slotted into the leadoff spot, allowing third baseman Manny Machado to slide down the order.

Because Reimold is out of options, the Orioles have been hesitant to select his contract. They believe he would be claimed off waivers if they tried to pass him through and outright him. He batted .340/.439/.489 in 24 exhibition games this spring and still failed to break camp with the team.

Reimold's minor league deal includes a July 12 opt-out date.

The Orioles selected Reimold in the second round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft out of Bowling Green. The Blue Jays and Diamondbacks selected him off waivers in 2014 before he returned to the organization.

Reimold, fully recovered from corrective surgery to fuse vertebrae in his neck, is a career .251/.324/.439 hitter in parts of six major league seasons.

Better late than never... part of me wished that they would bring up both Reimold AND Parmelee, though.

well 3-0 first sweep of the year . nolan looks like his D has picked up a little . we have solved lf or rf . loved to see nolan look down with that ear to ear grin but giving the ball to that kid priceless . go nolan it's time for a big run . btw atleast 3 of the putouts wouldn't have been made by other outfielders we have for lf and rf

Snider needs to start picking it up offensively, he should be on pace for 15-20 hrs and has one. Good to see both NR and Wieters back, I feel like it's 2010 or something.:heh:

2014 after 60 games: 31-29, 5.5 GB; 263 RS, 263 RA; Expected record = 30-30
2015 after 60 games: 30-30, 3.0 GB; 253 RS, 241 RA; Expected record = 31-29

Looks like this team can still be competitive thanks to the relative parity in the AL East...

They can defiantly compete as long as they keep hitting. Yankees are old and losing guys to injuries, Andrew Miller out for at least a month now. Tampa can't hit, Jays keep winning now. Sox are a huge mess now.

Agreed with the general idea... although I doubt that Reimold is literally worth 4 extra wins over 60 games :D

That being said, I guess the hole in LF is plugged for now as long as Reimold stays healthy. But RF is still a weakness, and part of me wonders if it would be possible to deal some combination of Tillman, Norris, and/or Matusz for another corner outfielder who's better than Snider / Pearce / Young... if it makes sense in late July.

do we forget how bad our outfield has been . i'm not talking EEEEEE it's about the balls they missed or didn't get to that should've been or throwing to the wrong base plus the base running or the working a pitcher . plus the over working and inflating of our pitchers era .

nolan was told to go elsewhere by family , agent and friends . as a true o's fan i have always thought that nolan that we owe him over a dearza , lough , snider , young and pearce . what color does nolan bleed it's black and orange . he would give us a home team discount . Steve Melewski: Nolan Reimold on Buck's comments about him and more . a true o's fan thinks about what nolan is saying may bring a tear to ones eye . go nolan and go o's what a story btw the o's are signing caleb's brother to a minor league deal . i would love to see both play together in sept .
