Let's hope we awake from our Zombieland like state and take a series before the break.

50/50 chance for a split with Hamels and Griffin.

bad news guys, I'm taking my son to the game tomorrow night. This will be his third game and Hamels oddly enough has pitched every game he has attended. We have lost every one of them. Bought these a long time ago and got right on the field, but didn't expect Hamels to come up in the rotation again.

So Friday should be a loss, sorry bro's.

Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. Every dog has their day. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all. Wait, I don't want to use that. Anyway, maybe things will be different this time around.

when you play 36 games in 37 days or some such, with a brutal back and forth travel schedule, and lose 3/5's of your rotation, it's going to be tough times.

still, the Rangers are 20 games over .500. Lots of baseball yet to be played. I'm concerned but not worried.

From Scott Lucas.

Baseball Prospectus unveiled its top 50 midseason prospects, including:
12. IF Joey Gallo
22. CF Lewis Brinson
47. LHP Yohander Mendez
48. RHP Luis Ortiz

Mendez wasn't on anybody's top 100 (that I know of) before the season. I mentioned yesterday that he's had as good as season as anyone in the Texas system, and the nice folks at BP are of the same mind.

Also: 23. Nick Williams, 36. Jake Thompson, 46. Jorge Alfaro. (Also: Cole Hamels.)

It appears the Rangers will have to make plans for their starting rotation past the trade deadline without having a verdict on enigmatic Derek Holland's ability to help them.

Holland, out since June 21 with left shoulder inflammation, still has not begun a throwing program. He will see team physician Dr. Keith Meister this weekend for a follow-up.

If Holland is medically cleared, he will start a throwing program that will gradually increase before he moves to a mound and then is likely to need multiple rehab starts if he is to return to the starting rotation. It is not feasible that all of that could happen in the three weeks before the Aug. 1 trading deadline.

Colby Lewis is already going to be out until mid- to late August with a strained lat muscle. Uncertainty over the future of two starters could force the Rangers to be more aggressive ahead of the trade deadline.

Rangers won't know when Holland might be available before Aug. 1 trade deadline; will uncertainty force their hand? | SportsDay

  • Rangers GM Jon Daniels says that the club would have interest in working out a long-term deal with outfielder Ian Desmond, as Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports. Though he said that he wouldn’t discuss the matter beyond acknowledging that fact, Daniels heaped praise upon the deserving All-Star. Grant argues that the time is now for Texas to try to strike a deal. That certainly won’t be easy, but as Grant notes, Desmond may have some added motivation given that he previously turned down a chance at a major payday.

Find a home for Andrus, Fielder and/or Choo and this makes more sense

Agree. Hate to say this but preferably Andrus. Don't hate to say this, preferably Fielder.

Why is Chi Chi getting this start? He was abysmal against the Twins last weekend. Isn't there someone in the minors we could bring up for a spot start?

Pretty tall order

Think it ultimately determines whether it fits into the budget and whether Desmond stays, which I still don't think is the best plan of action, much more palpable if they manage to dump a high priced player

If the years on the contract are more than 4 years, its definitely a terrible idea
