comparing any teams hire to that of Arizona State is going to make that teams hire look better.

with that said, Sumlin wouldn't have lasted as long as he did at Texas AM if it weren't for Manziel being a star that one game vs Alabama.

I hope this works out. Stoops always spoke highly of Sumlin. I don't recall his programs getting into trouble. If he can recruit Texas and California maybe this will be a win for him and Arizona. I feel it has more potential than ASU's hire.

This is a good hire for Zona

Sumlin isn't a bad coach......he's just not a great coach. They'll win enough games to be relevant to some mid tier bowl, which for Zona isn't a bad thing.

If he hires the right coordinators he might be able to do something. But I think his recruiting is overrated. His pitch was SEC, not A&M when he was at aggy

We shall see how this works out

Gotta agree with OD on this one. Beating Bammer his 1st year got him that contract extension and raise.

So other than a Cotton Bowl win vs OU, what exactly did Sumlin do at A&M that was worth a sh1t?

Nothing really. He had that one good season and that was it. I read that out of his 56 wins at Aggy, 23 of those came against FCS teams and mid majors. Not winning conference titles, not competing for NC's, winning 8 games a year and going to shit bowls will be just fine in Tucson. They have ZERO expectations out there. They are a basketball school first and foremost.

You can say a lot of that about Nick Saban before he went to LSU or Dantonio before he went to Michigan State.

This is a good point tho.

Sumlin is going to pad that schedule with cake.......that's what he did at aggy

They'll be guaranteed damn near 8 wins a year

What does Nick Saban have to do with Sumlin?
A coach who didn’t really do shit at a P5 conference and got paid a top 3 salary at a dying P5 program that turned out to be half way decent.

I think Aggy also averaged like 8 home games every year or would play a non conference game in Houston every now and then. Not sure he'll be able to pull that off in the Pac.....

He’ll also be in a significantly easier division.

yes but HIS team will be less talented, and I'll believe he's an ace recruiter when he proves it.

His classes weren't all that impressive at A&M outside of a billion WRs and 5 star QBs he couldn't keep on the roster

He won't come close to recruiting at Zona as he did at TAMU.
There will be that as well.

On the contrary...the Pac12 is made for him and he's getting a QB made for him.

He could cause some serious commotion next year in that league.
Sumlin seems to go places that are in pretty good shape when he gets there. Briles left a good group at UH. Sherman left an all world offensive line at A&M.

Supposedly Zona was a very young team last year as well. Richie Rod didn't leave the cupboard totally bare if that is the case. We shall see.
