In what will undoubtedly go down as the most entertaining final third of the second round in NBA Draft history, things got chippy between new Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers and ESPN’s Bill Simmons.
Rivers was interviewed during the draft telecast by ESPN’s Shelley Smith for his thoughts on the Clippers’ selection of Reggie Bullock as well as Thursday’s blockbuster trade of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from his former team, the Boston Celtics, to the Brooklyn Nets. He was also asked about the repeated allegations from Simmons, a noted Celtics fan, that Rivers quit on the team.
“I would like to call him an idiot,” Rivers replied, “but I’m too classy for that.”
Simmons was heated and shot back with a feiry response.
“The truth keeps changing. He’s giving different quotes about this. He did know, he didn’t know, he kind of knew. He wanted the trade to happen, he was coming back, he needed a year off,” Simmons said. “When he sticks to a story, I’ll believe the truth.”
