Has anybody else seen the 1980's tv mini series, "Shogun," with Richard Chamberlain? I vaguely remember it but I remember liking it so I decided to re-watch it. Have been watching it on YouTube and the quality is pretty bad but the movie is excellent.

What was your opinion of the book?

The book was very good but I've been reading all of Wilbur Smith's books and am almost done so nothing compares with those. :2cents:

Robotic, if you haven't read any Wilbur Smith books and you like Africa-based historical fiction, read When the Lion Feeds. You may roll your eyes when I say this, but it's one of the only books I've ever read that I'd consider so good it's life-changing. It started me on his books and I'm almost 30,000 pages in! when I finish, I'm going to take a year off and start over. Blue Horizon was my second favorite.

I've never read a book that good lol. One book that almost made me change my life was the "Shack." My ex made me start reading it and I actually enjoyed it.

I'll have to look into those. Sounds a lot like Michener's books, I really liked Poland, The Source and The Covenant for historical based novels set outside the US.

I remember watching the miniseries as a kid and loving it. Enjoyed it so much that i checked out the book for silent reading in middle school English class. Can't remember if I ever made it to the end. Big book.

Saw some of it again a few years ago, and it was kind of silly, really. Still, not bad for tv.
